You’re Never Too Cool To Go To The Circus

You’re Never Too Cool To Go To The Circus

At the end of the Zippos Circus show at Blackheath on Sunday afternoon, the Ringmaster Norman Barrett MBE said “you’re never too cool to go to the circus” and I will tell you what, he has hit it right on the button with that statement. I would like to also add to that, you’re never too old to enjoy the circus. I may be 39 or something years old, but I had a fantastic time watching the various acts doing their thing.

It has been such a long time  since I was last at the circus. In fact it must be around 30 years or more since I last entered the big top. In those bad old days, they had a whole host of exotic and wild animals. Nowadays they have of course cleaned up their act and the most exotic animals they had on Sunday were a couple of Shetland Ponies, four horses and  some budgies. Which I may add all looked in fantastic condition and in my mind they clearly get plenty of exercise and variety of life working in the Circus.

Judging by all the happy smiling faces and the packed crowds reaction to the various performances at Zippos on Sunday afternoon, I wasn’t the only one having a fantastic time. People of all ages from wee kids to senior citizens were there loving the show. Also you don’t have to be a wee kid to love the taste of popcorn and candy floss!

Zippos truly put on an amazing show. The highlight of the show for me, had to be the Hire Wire Walking act from Columbia, “Los Marinhos. These guys were totally amazing. I was sitting with my mouth wide open watching their performance. It was out of this world. I had to give myself a shake because I could hardly believe what I was watching. I was truly amazed to see the guy skipping on the hire wire rope 40 or so feet above the ground. And their Wheel of Death, act was also very good.

There were of course many other  great performances, including the Chinese acrobats “Ying and Yang”, “The Wild Horses, as well as the pretty girls who performed in the air and on the ground with such skill and grace. And of course the circus wouldn’t be complete without clowns adding a bit of humour to the proceedings.

If your looking for a fun couple of hours entertainment I would definitely recommend getting yourself along to see Zippos Circus and their “Encore” show, which is going to be performed at a variety of locations in and around London over the coming months. Not only will the kids love it, but take it from me it doesn’t matter what age you are, you will have a great time. If you do decide to go, book your tickets online and save yourself some money. You can check out the details on their web site at Zippos Circus.

Before I go and do whatever it is I do, I will give a special mention to the photography exhibition by Phil Fisk that was on in the Press Tent featuring the Circus performers. They are definitely worth checking out and you can do so at http://www.alyson-jones.com
