What Is The Best Free View In London, Well Let Me Tell You!
What is the best free view that London has to offer, well there are a few to chose from, which are quite simply spectacular. Why waste your money and time queuing up for an eternity to be packed on the London eye, when you can get an equally if not better view for free.
So far and from personal experience I would say that the best free views in London, can be found at Greenwich Park, Parliament Hill or Primrose Hill. The view from each of them is well worth the tiny bit of effort required to get there and it sure beats standing in a queue.
The breathtaking views that you will get from Greenwich Park, Parliament Hill or Primrose Hill, doesn’t even require that much effort to reach highest vantage points at any of them. They are all nothing bigger than wee mounds and you wont even break sweat, that is unless you happen to be an African Princess that hates walking up hills!
The Contenders For the Best Free View In London:
Greenwich Park:
Greenwich Park, which covers 183 acres and is the oldest of the Royal Parks, as well as being part of the Greenwich World Heritage site. The great thing about Greenwich Park for me, is that there is quite a few different vantage points where you can get a variety of views.
From Greenwich Park you will get views of Queens House, National Maritime Museum, Royal Naval College, Canary Wharf, Docklands ,O2, the River Thames and the various usual suspects in Central London and beyond. One thing I would like to find out, but haven’t been able to get a definite answer on, is that I would say the Royal Observatory is the highest point in the park, but how high is that point?
Parliament Hill:
Parliament Hill, or Traitors Hill as it was once known as, is part of Hampstead Heath and is London’s own piece of country side, which is quite literally in their own backyard. When I was there recently it felt a little bit surreal because I felt like I was in the middle of know where as I walked along the trails through the trees and then you get to Parliament Hill and then you see the chaos of all those man made structures and buildings on the skyline.
Parliament Hill is around 321 feet high (98 metres) and offers some pretty spectacular views of London, which include St Pauls Cathedral, Westminster, Canary Wharf, the Gherkin, London Eye and many more. It is also a great place for all those adults out there that don’t want to grow up and like flying kites!
Primrose Hill:
Primrose Hill, which can be found on the north side of Regents Park is 256 feet high (78 meters) and is nothing more than a tiny wee mound, but it however offers stunning and scenic views of London.
From the top of Primrose Hill, which will take you all of 5 minutes to climb to the top of, you will find views of the usual London skyline suspects.
I personally love the views from the top of all three, they are all great places to take your girl or guy to and marvel at the breathtaking views of London. Do I have a personal favourite, well at the moment it has to be Greenwich Park and that is because of the variety of vantage points and different views that you can find at the park.
The next time you have some spare time and the sun is shinning I would recommend taking your tartan rug, a picnic and couple of bottles of Cava to laze around with at Greenwich Park, Parliament Hill or Primrose Hill. I can almost guarantee that if you have some romance in your heart you will enjoy the setting provided by all three locations.
There may be better views in London than those offered by Greenwich Park, Parliament Hill or Primrose Hill and if anybody knows of them let me know and I will go check them out. I have heard that the views from Shooters Hill and from Alexandra Park are possible contenders for the best free views in London and I shall be investigating sometime soon.
