Warning – visiting this site may harm your computer! WTF…

Yesterday morning at around 9am – after I had enjoyed a work out in the local park and then showering I searched for my own blog in Google and I was greeted with Warning – visiting this site may harm your computer! WTF… WTF… WTF…!!! See the picture below, enlarge it to see the horror that I faced when I was expecting to see my normal beautiful home page! It was like seeing a great work of art defaced by a vandal!

I had a busy day planned…I had a meeting in the City at 12 noon. I had planned on visiting a couple of attractions nearby…before and afterwards. Not anymore!

I couldn’t believe it. As quick as you could say ‘thrashed with birch’ – that is in reference to Nathaniel Rothschild’s court case he lost the other day – I quickly logged into Google Webmaster tools and the story unravelled. Some parasite, a scammer had infected my baby, London Is Cool with malware. Why a scammer thinks it was a great business move to send people who visited this blog to a fake HSBC log in page? Oh yeah someone is really going to fall for that!

The malicious software was hosted on goo.ind.in. I decided not to go mad, panic or head out onto the streets and shout at the first Indian person I seen walking along the street… that was a joke before some PC clown tries to have me arrested! Thankfully my blog is hosted with a good company, Host Gator. Within a few minutes I was chatting to a technical support person on their live chat system. He passed my problem onto their security team and all I had to was wait…

Meanwhile I searched online to see if this had happened to other people, and of course it had numerous times. I read a blog post about how to solve the problem and, WTF… the blogger was writing in English, but it could have been a foreign language, I couldn’t understand a word! My head was truly spinning after reading the article! I’m a blogger not a nerd!

I waited, and waited some more. After 30 minutes still no email from Host Gator telling me problem fixed Mr Wallace. 1 hour still no answer. 2 hours nothing… tick tock, tick tock! I had to head out into the City without closure. At this point I had calmed down and decided to just wait. I had faith in Host Gator, they are a class act.

By the time I came home at 5.30pm – after my meeting I got back on track and enjoyed the buzz of exploring London, being the tourists I am! Host Gator had sent me an email telling me the problem had been solved and how the crooks managed to infect London Is Cool with their shit! Next up I had to request that google review my site and take down their health warning! By the time I went to bed at 12.30pm Google still hadn’t reviewed my site. Thankfully when I checked at 8am this morning all was back to normal!

Who says violence isn’t an answer… I would love to be locked in a room with the scammer who left their poison on London Is Cool. Just me, them and a baseball bat, and believe me I wouldn’t feel any remorse about breaking a few bones! In fact it would make me feel good! Karma I’m sure will one day catch up with the scammer, all scammers who take greats delight in inflicting misery upon people in the aid of making a few bucks…

Warning – visiting this site may harm your computer! Not anymore it wont… an easy problem to fix if you have a good host… London Is Cool is back… and ready to rock ‘n’ roll…

  2. I am so glad you just happened to look and see that. I don’t understand why people do these types of things. Did Google or Host Gator explain how it was that they did it? This is Lisa from Triberr! Have a great rest of your weekend!

  3. What a nightmare!!!! So glad you got it sorted out quickly though.

  4. Yikes, that’s awful. I’m so glad you got this resolved so soon. Some people have nothing better to do than to mess with others. They are so miserable that they want everyone else to be miserable too.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  5. Steve, it could have been a lot worse for sure. Thankfully my host is on the ball and I guess it is a problem they have dealt with many times before.

Lisa Ladrido, my host kinda exploianed it and outlined the steps I need to take to stop it happening again. Google needs to start doing more to put hte scammers, spammers etc out of operation!

Emm, it was a mini nightmare. A learning experience!

Comedy plus, you are right. Hopefully they will have a nasty accident in the very near future. I will be praying hard for that!

  6. I feel your pain as it has happened to me in the past. Kill all viruses!

  7. Tim, I lot of people have at some point experienced the handiwork of the scammers! Yes they need to be exterminated!

  8. I’m glad to see ur back to full health. I will stick some pins in a voodoo doll on ur behalf.

  9. Bev, thanks and please feel free to stick hundreds of pins in and bring lots of pain to the scumbag!
