United Underground 2 At The Southbank Centre

United Underground 2 At The Southbank Centre

On Saturday 20th of February at  the Queen Elizabeth Hall in  the Southbank Centre in London plays host to the second United Underground extravaganza. United Underground is an event that is presented by Ctrl.Alt.Shift and is a  collaborative project hotsted by the Southbank Centre, British Underground and Riz MC.

United Underground has been billed as a music and activism party, featuring a heady and explosive mix of live music, DJ’s, film and street culture. This cutting edge event features a variety of club and alternative artists, as well as exploring the potential of music as a catalyst for change, focusing on the issue of conflict.

I must admit that most of the artists performing I have never heard of which is probably a good thing and I mean that in a good way! However some of them such as Aruba Red I have heard of and they aint half bad and don’t let the fact that one of the guest speakers will include former Mayor of London Ken Livingston put you off, because I’m sure he will be talking about more than just Boris Johnson and how he did so much better than him, Yawn, Yawn, Yawn…..

United Underground 2 kicks of at 6pm, however there is a free warm up event that starts at 12 noon called “Writings On The Wall”, which will feature a  live showcase of unsigned music acts and spoken word artists, as well a screen printing workshop and showcase led by the Print Club London.

The first London Underground event during the summer was a runnaway success and was a complete sell out so if you are interested in attending this one I think it could be a good idea to buy your ticket in advance. I found a  clip on Youtube, which was filmed during the summer event and it gives you a wee flavour of what to expect.
