A blog about life in London

Top reasons why London is the coolest place for a date

Think of romance and which city immediately springs to mind? Is it Paris, New York, or perhaps Barcelona? Why not change your perceptions and think of somewhere closer to home? For me, London is the best city for a cool date.

If you want to impress your partner, whatever they’re into, London has something to delight and thrill you both. So, what is it that makes this city the greatest place for love?

Cool Londoners

London’s most unique features include its famous sights, architecture, shopping and culture. But it’s the people who live here who make this city, within the M25, the place to be.

Their creativity, liveliness and diversity make London into the exciting, ever-changing metropolis it is today. They might not always be the friendliest in the world, but you can guarantee they can direct you to the nearest cool night spot.

Cool tip

Take your lead from the locals and discover the happening places to be.

Romantic spots

On the surface it might appear to be all hustle and bustle, day and night, but there are quiet romantic moments to be had in London. Remember when Hugh Grant finds that secret garden with Julia Roberts in Notting Hill? You too could find that special place (though not involving any trespassing, of course!).

Keep your eyes peeled and you’re sure to stumble upon many quiet, romantic spaces.

Events & festivals

From the mainstream events (such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the BFI London Film Festival) to the fringe pop-up parties, there to the fringe pop-up parties, there’s always a new event or festival in the city ─ thanks to those brilliantly creative London folk.

Cool tip

Whether you met through a shared love of music on a dating website like eHarmony.co.uk or at your local craft centre, there’s bound to be the perfect event to suit your interests.

Outside eating

Being cool in London most definitely involves eating. The London weather makes outside dining an unpredictable experience, but there are few better cities to enjoy street food. Keep an eye out for pop-up restaurants or treat your date to a delicious snack from Borough Market, near London Bridge Station.

Cool tip

Making an occasion of your date? Although it’s not London’s best kept secret, Petersham Nurseries Café is an intimate (if expensive) place to enjoy each other’s company al fresco.

Surprise discoveries

It might be the secret gardens, the mind-blowing graffiti art or that busker playing your favourite love song in a really original way. The only way to truly find your cool London is to discover it for yourself.

Cool tip

Pick up copies of free magazines, link up with influencers on social media and keep your eyes and ears open for the surprises this city has to offer.

It’s a combination of these things that make London the top city for cool dates. But it’s not only for Londoners. If you’ve met someone from Cambridge on a dating site or at a friend’s party in Oxford, a great date in London is only a short train ride away. This guide gives you an idea of just some of the experiences you could have.
