The Village Fete In London, What A Fantastic Afternoon

The Village Fete In London, What A Fantastic Afternoon

On Saturday afternoon, courtesy of The Ghost Bus and the dastardly and sinister driver, along with the slightly unhinged bus conductor, they are nice people really. I ended up at a wonderful event  The Village Fete, which was being held at the Southwark campus of the London South Bank University.

The organisers of this event put together a very realistic village fete, they even had the whole event area covered in real grass, which truly added to the whole ambiance of the place. I almost felt like I was really out in the countryside, with the bales of hay all over the place and with all the different stalls, activities and live music, which all helped to create a lot of fun and a great atmosphere for all those who attended.  Wouldn’t it be good to see London’s so called Mayor Boris Johnson making a surprise appearance at events like this, but I feel his ego is too big for having to hang around normal people.

There was a fairly good crowd of people in attendance, considering the weather at times was a wee bit wet and we all know how the locals here are scared of a bit of rain. Those that were too frightened to get a bit of water on there skins missed out on a great afternoon of fun.

What I thought was a nice touch was the wide variety of different musical tastes that were catered for, and the sisters of The Depford Chorale with their sweet gospel music made it seem like it had never been raining at all, and watching the Break Dancing Duo made me realise I’m not as young and fit as I think I am anymore. I was out of there quickly when it was time for Break Dancing lessons, before I ended up with a crippling injury.

I was sitting on the Ghost Tours Bus taking things easy for few minutes, when I heard the classic song, that The clash use to perform so amazingly well, “I fought the Law”, blasting out from somewhere. I thought the Ghost bus was playing tricks on me, especially when the sounds of the Ukulele, were accompanying the song. I needn’t have worried, it was only the Dulwich Ukulele Club performing there rendition of the classic song.

I have been to a few village fetes back home in Scotland and this one compares very favourable to them. One apsect of this fete, which I truly liked to see, was all the ebony ladies that made a real effort and got dressed up for the occasion. They sure stood out from the crowd and brightend the place up.

I better not forget to mention the infamous Ghost Bus, which was of course one of the star attractions and was much loved by the kids and even more so by the adults. Unfortunately the Ghost Bus was a bit too frightening for one wee girl, who left her poor dad almost in tears of his own because he never got the chance to have a look round the bus.

I can’t believe they covered the place in grass to make it feel more like the country. That is brilliant! Sounds like a really fun Sat in London. We were on the Isle of Wight this Sat and it was pissing it down all day. Still gorgeous though!

The girl that organised The Country Fete, who’s names I have forgotten did an amazing job. I’m glad the rain didn’t bother you too much, unfortunately too many people out there can’t cope with or handle the rain.

It was really a great day, for this local lad from NYC. This university rocks man. turning the London city streets into the quaint countryside is inspired. I want to go to the call place they call LSBU, but I live in the States, so they might just do a short course?
