The Tropical Princess Tastes So Dam Good
It is Friday and the weekend is almost here again. When I was living in Barbados I was renowned for my Friday evening cocktail sessions. Family members would always seem to be rather strangely passing by just as my cocktail shaker came out of the cupboard.
Not that I minded at all, the more people the merrier. I use to love standing on the front porch sipping cocktails on a warm Barbados evening listening to some Calypso or Soca. As I tried to figure out what my relatives were saying. They talk hardcore Bajan, which fortunately become more understandable the more cocktails I had.
I only knew 6 different cocktail recipes and they all usually had rum in them. I’m not stupid or rich. In Barbados any imported booze costs a small fortune. I could make those 6 cocktails to perfection, well they were my idea of perfection and I never seen anybody turn one down or not come back for seconds or thirds.
One cocktail that was in my repertoire was the “Tropical Princess” which is a real sweet cocktail that is almost as sweet as all those beautiful Bajans girls that you see all over the place in Barbados. A few of those and I mean cocktails; will have me in the party mood.
Tropical Princess Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 part White rum ·
1/2 part Crème de cacao (white)
1/2 part Passion fruit liqueur
1 Passion fruit juice
2 parts Pineapple juice
1 Pineapple slice
2 teaspoons Sugar syrup
Instructions:
Shake all ingredients, including the passion fruit juice (preferably fresh, seeds and all), over ice and strain into a glass. Garnish with a pineapple leaf and wedge on the rim and few passion fruit seeds floating on top.
There you have it the Tropical Princess, a rather delicious tasting cocktail that will get you in the mood for an enjoyable night. I would recommend listening to some Soca or Calypso to add to the ambiance and a warm evening would of course make things perfect, with a wee breeze in the air. Unfortunately my warm evening will come from turning up my central heating to full blast.
