The Tallest Buildings and Structures In Cool London
Wandering around cool London on my adventures it crossed my mind as to how tall are some of the cities tallest buildings and structures.
Thankfully London isn’t a city, which is overrun with monstrosities of skyscrapers like New York City, but never the less there are a few big buildings that stand out.
London is an unbelievable cool city, here you will find buildings that are centuries old, standing next to monster glass skyscrapers that are hundreds of feet high. One thing I do know is that none of the modern buildings will still be standing in a couple of hundred years time.
London’s Tallest Buildings and Structures
1. One Canada Square – Located in Canary Wharf it is not only the tallest building in London, but the tallest in the UK. One Canada Square stands at 235 meters/ 800 feet tall.
2. 8 Canada Square – Again located in Canary Wharf it is the second equal tallest building in London and the UK. 8 Canada Square stands at 200 metres/655 feet tall
3. 25 Canada Square – As you can guess it is located in Canary Wharf and is the second equal tallest building in London and the UK. 25 Canada Square stands at 200 metres/655 feet tall
4. BT Tower – A tall cylindrical building located at 60 Cleveland Street, Fitrovia , which is London’s 4th tallest building at 191 metres/625 feet tall.
5. Tower 42 – Is the tallest building in the City of London and the 5th tallest in London and stands at 183 feet/600 feet high, it can be found at 25 Old Broad Street.
6. 30 St Mary Axe – More commonly known as the Gherkin it is the 6th tallest building in London, which stands at 180 metres/590 feet high. It is located in the financial district of London.
7. Crystal Palace Transmitter – The tallest structure in London, which is a broadcasting and telecommunications transmitter in the Crystal Palace area, it is 220 metres/ 720 feet high.
8. London Eye – The most popular paid tourist attraction in London and the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, which stands an impressive 135 metres/443 feet tall.
9. Pan Peninsula East – This is the tallest all residential tower in London and the UK, which is located in the Docklands. It stands at 147 metres/ 482 feet high. That equates to 48 storeys, that is too high for me.
10. Battersea Power Station – The iconic power station, which was once upon a time a coal fired power station, has four concrete chimneys, which stand around 103 metres/340 feet high.
11. St Pauls Cathedral – Is the tallest place of worship in London, which stands at 111 metres/364 feet high and was built in the 1700′s.
12.Wembley Stadium – The tallest stadium in the world standing at 133 metres/436 feet high.
13. The London Hilton on Park Lane – The tallest hotel in London, which is 29 floors high and stands at 101 metres/331 feet high.
14. Heron Tower – It will when it is completed become the tallest building in the UK sometime in 2010, by pinnacle height. Basically they are putting a big antenna on top the building to make it the tallest structure in the UK. The actual building height will only be 202.52 metres/ 664 feet high, which is not quite good enough. With the antenna on top it will be 246 metres/807 feet tall.
London’s tallest buildings are small fry compared to that other epicentre of the world New York. The tallest building in London, One Canada Square would only make it into the top 15th tallest building in New York. The tallest building in NY, which is the Empire State Building is 381 metres/1250 feet tall or or including its spire 443.2 metres/1454 feet.
London Is Cool and the mixture of monster buildings and structures intermixed with the hundreds of year old buildings make this a unique city to live, visit and play in.

As you mentioned,London isn’t a city overrun with skyscrapers instead there are amazing Victorian buildings and houses.
The building you mentioned that I like most is the London Eye:from there you can enjoy an amazing 360 view.
The London eye is hugely popular but to be honest when I went on it I was really disappointing, it is way too long and although the views are good, i think its really over rated.
my best friend has been up the heron tower check here http://s931.photobucket.com/albums/ad154/dav-p/Heron%20Tower%20London%20051209/
Emley Moor
Emley Moor Tower, Emley, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Height of mast 330.4 metres (1,084 ft)
This is substantially talller than any structure in London and has a lift that takes nearly 8 minutes to get up. The veiw on top of the hill which is afurther 800 feet or 240mtrs is outstanding veiws oveer the dark peak and south and north poennines and across to the east looking out to Eggborough FerryBridge and Drax . Anyway dont know how relevant this is but wanted to mention it.
If I ever make it to Yorkshire and one of these days I plan on doing so, I will go check out the views…
You forgot to menshion the new buliding that will be constructed! at 97 floors high!
Hi Nigel bailey, I’m from Huddersfield too and my unkle used to work in emley moor mast but I didn’t know you could go up it and have a look
Lived in Portsmouth for a while where you can go up the MASSIVE spinnaker tower and look out over the harbour and sea. I have to say though that London is wher its at! Been here a few years now and can’t imagine living anywhere else in UK without getting well bored pretty quick. And they’re now building that ‘needle’ thing down near london bridge.
