The Scoop Free London Events
The Scoop in London is a unique outdoor sunken amphitheatre located in the heart of the city, between Tower Bridge and London Bridge on the South Bank of the River Thames. During the summer months a variety of free, yes I said FREE events will be taking place at the Scoop.
I have never personally attended any events at the Scoop, in fact I have ashamedly just discovered the place. Due to these recessionary times and having a hungry Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Mable to feed, I decided to start opening my eyes a little bit more as to what is out there in London to do this summer for free. FREE stuff isn’t just for the tourists, why should they have all the fun!
Just looking at all the free performances that they have lined up to take place at the Scoop this summer is getting me excited. I’m especially looking forward to ‘Fringe I’m A Londoner’ which is a play that is set in London and sounds like it is going to be well worth watching. Also ‘Free Music’ which will take place during 30 June – 23 July and will feature a variety of different musical styles to suit most people…even me!
I’m especially looking forward to the ‘Free Films’ that they are going to be showing at the Scoop from 15 September – 1 October. The Kite Runner, North By Northwest and The Hurt Locker are 3 films I cant miss. I use to love going to the Drive In movie theatre in Barbados, that truly was a fun and a enjoyable way to watch movies and I have a funny feeling the Scoop is going to be equally as enjoyable.
I just wish someone had the foresight to show ‘Braveheart’ now that would be truly amazing, and the tourists would love it, I would love it, in fact everyone would love it apart from the English. FREEDOM!
For the full list of what’s on and at what times at the Scoop this summer go check out the More London website. Remember to take a cushion to sit on because a couple of hours sitting on a cold hard surface could spoil the show. I think you may be able to hire cushions to sit on at the venue but this being London it will probably be cheaper to buy one from a pound shop and then use it again and again.
Make sure to get there early because there is only seating for 800 people, especially if the sun is shining, in fact no matter what the weather is like the Scoop will get busy. Entry is on a first come first served basis and when the performance is sold out, entry will then be on a one in one out basis. And as you may have expected all performances are subject to change, lets just say if it is lashing down with rain it aint going to be happening!
