The five coolest spots in London

The bustling metropolis of London is simply full of activity, with lively streets, shops of all shapes and sizes, beautiful parks, weekly markets and a nightlife that never stops. In fact, it’s so full of trendy places to hang out that they compete for a space at the top, seeming to go in and out of fashion at the end of each week.

Whether you’re in London dating or in London sightseeing, here are five of the trendiest areas in the capital, no matter which week it is…

Camden

Camden has been termed ‘cool’ for several decades. And there really is no other word for it, with its population of immaculately dressed extroverts, vibrant markets and wild club nights. Where else could you sit on a motorbike seat, eat delicious food hot from a stall and stare into a lock? Whether you’re eating, shopping, people watching, pubbing or clubbing, Camden is the place to be.

Brick Lane

Over in east London there’s a seemingly inconspicuous lane lined with take-away shops. But as you walk along it, the crowds start to throng and suddenly there before you is one of the coolest places in London, and possibly the world. On Sundays you’ll find vintage clothes stalls, brick-a-brack from the 1930s, record collections and an enormous food market, not to mention the artlessly cool clientele. And at night the general area also opens up as the best place in London for a night out – Shoreditch, in particular, is a veritable hive of activity.

Ladbroke Grove

Any west Londoners will dispute the ‘cool’ of Brick Lane, mainly because they have a very high card to play themselves. Ladbroke Grove – and its Friday and Saturday market along Portobello Road – is an exceptionally trendy area. Cheap clothes of many varieties are sold here, as well as gorgeous vintage items and a number of good-value furniture stores. Reggae music blares through the stalls, and the atmosphere is harmonious and relaxed. The area is also riddled with hip cafes and bars to shelter from the cold.

Southbank

This area by the side of the Thames is particularly trendy among young professionals. It is populated by luxurious restaurants, bars and theatres with views of the river. But frequent markets, street performers, an ice rink and the presence of the ever-popular BFI cinema also bring in a wider crowd. This is also the perfect area for dating, particularly if you met through work or on professional dating sites.

Covent Garden

Another slightly more upmarket area of London, Covent Garden will never fail to be trendy. By day its streets are alive with market stalls, performers and quirky outdoor restaurants, also enhanced by the many amazing independent shops that reside there. By night cocktail bars, theatres and clubs are open for business, packed with every kind of Londoner.
