The End Of Summer Time Is Almost Here
It is almost the end of summer time, well the end of British summer time I should say. And for those of us Living in London, I’m sure you can all feel a wee chill in the morning and evening air, as well as a noticeable difference in the time it starts to get dark.
The official end of British summer time is actually the 31st of October when the clocks go back an hour at precisely 2.00 am and time moves to 1.00am. I don’t know about in London, because this is going to be my first winter here, but back home in Aberdeen, it use to start to get dark at 4pm. That was depressing.
I suppose we can’t complain or I cant complain because it has been a pretty good summer in London. I reckon since about May I have very rarely had to wear a jumper let alone a jacket. I know people love to complain about the so called British weather, but people living in London haven’t got anything to complain about. If you want to moan about the weather come and live in Scotland for a year.
It may almost be the end of summer, and the weather is starting to cool down big time and the dark nights will start to kick in early. But just think of all those early nights you can have with your partner to stay warm. Just like they use to in the old days, before central hearing. There is nothing like a bit of body to body contact to keep the cold at bay.
For those of you that are from hot weather countries and are new to London or the Uk and have never faced a London or British winter before be afraid, be very afraid. Only joking, don’t let the cold weather beat you. It all about dressing appropriately for the weather conditions. If its cold you wear more, clothes. The trick is to wear lots of thin layers and to make sure you always wear a hat and warm socks. It really is as simple as that!
I was lucky this year because I missed most of the London winter weather as I arrived here from Barbados near the end of February. However it was still fucking freezing. 9 months in the Caribbean messed up this Scottish loons resistance to the cold. I thought I was going to die from it.
In the Caribbean I know the locals notice a bit of a difference between there summer time and winter time. For me it was just slightly less hot and little bit wetter. It truly amazes me how easy it is for the body to get used to hot weather as opposed to the freezing cold.
I remember my last winter in Aberdeen and the wonderful site of all those beautiful looking blonde model like Polish girls walking around with tiny skirts on and it would the middle of winter and bloody freezing cold. I don’t know how they manage it but I’m not complaining, all I can say is keep it up girls.
British winter time officially ends on the 27th of March, when the clocks will go forward an hour. So I suppose unless Simon Cowell wants to lend me his house in Barbados , pays for my flight and gives me some spending money I’m going to be stuck in London for the winter.
It may almost be the end of summer time but it doesn’t mean life stops for me. I use to love walking along the beautiful beaches in Aberdeen during the winter time. It may have been freezing cold and the North Sea wind would still cut through me like a knife, even though I was wrapped up good. You know what it did for me, It reminded me that it I was alive.
I’m actually looking forward to walking along the River Thames when it is freezing cold, quite simply because there wont be so many people kicking around. It will be the same old River Thames but it will be a different place without the hoards of tourists.
The end of summer time, is something to embrace and look forward too. I know from personal experience it is kind of boring and predicable when you live in a hot country and the weather is virtually always the same. I especially love those uniquely British days, when we get the four seasons in the same day, I for one cant wait for the winter season to begin.
