The Blogging Journey – Life In London According To Me
Life in London according to William K Wallace, along with a sprinkling of personal observations, that is what this blog, London Is Cool is all about. I blog because I can and want too, and most importantly because I find it fun. The fun factor is what it is all about for me, that is what gives me a real buzz.
I have been blogging about life in the ‘Big Smoke’ for a little over 14 months. London Is Cool, began its journey on the 12 May 2009. It seems just like yesterday that I began writing about my adventures in this crazy and amazing city. As the saying goes, time flies by when your having fun and I’m sure as heck having fun, loads of it.
When I first started blogging about London Life I must admit it was a bit of struggle to find my voice and to come up with things to write about. And there was already a huge amount of fantastic London London based blogs out there already. Did the world really need another London blog, would anybody even read it. There however didn’t seem to any Scottish bloggers, blogging about life in London.
Over the past 14 months London Is Cool has steadily grown and finding things to write about has became easy. If you are a blogger and you live in London and you cant find anything to write about, you maybe shouldn’t be wasting your time blogging. There is always something happening in London – there are loads of things to do and places to visit. As well as countless events, many of which are free. You won’t find much to write about wasting all your time on Facebook, Twitter, Messenger and television if anybody still watches that nowadays!
One thing that I hear all the time from so many bloggers is, ‘I can never find the time to write articles’…bullshit! You get lunch breaks, tea breaks and you spend hours every day on Facebook and Twittering about nothing, yet you can’t find the time to string 200 words together for an article. If you want to truly blog, you will, if you don’t, you wont – it is as simple as that.
I remember way back in those early days when I started blogging about life in London through the eyes of a slightly crazed Scotsman, how few people use to read my blog. It didn’t bother me too much..HONEST! So what if only a few people were reading London Is Cool, it didn’t mean that things were boring or bad – people were not aware of me yet, that was the way I seen things. The internet is after all saturated with over 128 millions blogs and in those early days I was just a needle in a haystack.
Nowadays I get a few more visitors than I did way back in May 2009 – for me blogging isn’t a sprint, it is a marathon. I know that in a years time form now, if I keep on progressing, loving what I’m doing and continuing to develop my unique voice and insight into life in London that this blog will be at a place that I’m happy with…
My advice to all new bloggers is to strive to find your own voice, be original and don’t give up, it all takes time and effort.
I thought it would be interesting to compare my visitor figures on the first day London Is Cool went live day on the 12 May 2009 with those on 12 July 2010, exactly 14 months later. I’m still nowhere near where I deserve to be. I think it is quite probably about time that I starting watching all those Youtube videos I have saved in my favourites and start learning about SEO, yes that is what comes next.

London Is Cool, is maybe not the best blog in the world, it is most definitely not the biggest blog in the world, but I like to think that I have a totally original voice that brings London to life, through my words and pictures…Life in London according to the Wandering Scotsman…
