The Big London Egg Hunt – Capture the Egg Thief!

The Big London Egg Hunt – Capture the Egg Thief!

There are 200 giant sized eggs located around Central London and Canary Wharf…well make that 199 because some toe rag has stolen one of them. More on that later. The 200 fibreglass eggs which stand 2ft 6in are part of charity event called ‘The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt’ which aims to raise £2 million for the charities’ Action for Children and Elephant Family. Call me a cynic but I’m sure plenty of men and woman in fancy suits will be happy bunny’s with the money raised from this campaign! How much of the funds raised go to the good causes they are supporting is what I wanna know…

Anyway… each of the eggs have been hand crafted and are designed by a variety of artists, designers and jewellers and are located at not so secret locations…you can download a map to find out exactly where each one is located. They seem to be everywhere…

The Big Egg Hunt hasn’t even been up and running for a week when on Saturday evening 2 were stolen. One since has been found. A member of the public noticed 2 men loading an egg located on New Bond Street into their car… I guess the CCTV cameras don’t work or the operator was sleeping!

The still missing egg, see small  picture at the top,  the Egg Letter Box which was located on Carnaby Street is now in the hands of dastardly egg thieves. The egg which is one of my personal favourites and is due to be auctioned off on the 20 of August. It is currently the third highest bid on egg out of the 200, at £2100. Even though not enough of the money raised will go to helping the children and the elephant’s, something is better than nothing!

It just goes to show you! There are CCTV cameras all over the place in Central London and yet no one noticed a giant egg which is worth thousands of pound being stolen. Hmm…yes indeed!

The Big Egg Hunt not only aims to raise money for charity, but the organisers are also hoping to set a Guinness World Record Most for the most participants in an Easter egg hunt title.
