Teddy Riley and Blackstreet

Teddy Riley and Blackstreet

I may not have known too much about Teddy Riley and his group Blackstreet before I went to see them at Indigo2 at the O2 last night, but let me just say they were fucking awesome. They have got a new fan in me. These guys could sing, perform and even dance a wee bit.

Before I went to last nights show I had checked them out a little bit on Youtube and knew that Teddy Riley was a bit of mover, shaker and groover in the music industry. He is of course credited with the creation of “New Swing Jack” musical genre.

He has had fair bit of success as an artist himself and has produced some big names, do they get any bigger than Michael Jackson. Riley produced half of the Dangerous album. I thought I had never heard of Blackstreet, but in retrospect I had heard the single by them “No Diggity”, which was a US number 1 and top 10 hit in the UK way back in the mid 90′s. My memory ain’t what it use to be!

It was good to see such a mixed crowd at the Indigo2 last night, there were plenty of people in the 39+ age group as well as youngsters. I noticed quite a few mothers and daughters and even a few grannies as well,  all having a good time grooving away to the sweet sounds of Blackstreet. I aint no dancer, but Blackstreet got me grooving a wee bit last night and my legs are feeling the effects of it  all today.

I must admit I was impressed with the Indigo2 as a venue. It is a fairly small place with a capacity of 2350, which makes for the type of gigs I like, intimate. The sound quality in that place was also excellent. It  really is a great venue.

If you ever get the chance to see Teddy Riley and Blackstreet perform, go see them, because these guys are making good music, as well as putting on a fantastic show. They will get you grooving whether you want to or not.
