Swine Flu No Need To Panic Honest!

Swine Flu No Need To Panic Honest!

Don’t be too worried or alarmed about swine flu and the devastating consequences that this virus can cause. Well I wasn’t too concerned about swine flu, because like many fit men, I sometimes think I’m indestructible and that there is no way a wee virus can possible strike me down.

But reading today’s free rag, it has truly opened my eyes to the seriousness and devastation that can potentially be caused by swine flu. I guess you would have to be a fool not to start to take things serious when Government Ministers in the Uk have officially drawn up plans for mass graves to deal with a second wave of swine flu expected in the autumn. There are also plans in place to use freight containers and storage units to hold bodies.

There is however no need to panic, a Home Office spokesman claimed yesterday, “These are possible scenarios, not certainties”. Let me think about this one, as we all know the Government tells us half truths and feeds us lies as and when it suits them.

So far around 49  people in the UK  have died from it and in the last 2 weeks there have been 36,000 reported cases of swine flu in England alone. I suppose the biggest concern is that the second wave in the autumn could be even worse. By that I imagine that they mean the second wave of it will be a stronger and more powerful strain of the virus.

The good news is that more than 13 million Britons will be offered the vaccine against the second wave of the virus headed our way this autumn. So if you are a health worker or in a so called vulnerable group, no need to worry. But for the rest of us we just have to hope that we are fit and healthy and don’t have any underlying health problems that could cause us serous problems if we catch the virus.

I have heard that people are lying to their doctor so that they can stock pile the vaccination just in case they really do catch it, is that such a bad thing to be prepared. What happens if there is a serious outbreak of swine flu in the UK and they run short of the vaccination or there are massive queues when or if you catch it.

I suppose it is good idea to know exactly what swine flu is and what the symptoms are so that we help ourselves and our loved ones, stay fit and healthy.

What Is Swine Flu:

  • Swine flu is the common name given to a new strain of influenza (flu). It is called swine flu because it is thought to have originated in pigs, but this is not certain.

What Are The Symptoms Of Swine Flu:

  • The most common symptoms are a fever, sore throat, diarrhoea, headache, feeling generally unwell and a dry cough. In other words, the symptoms are very similar to seasonal (regular) flu. Most people recover within a week, even without special treatment.

What To Do If You Have Swine Flu:

  • If you feel like you may have swine flu, visit www.nhs24.uk below, or call 0800 1 513 100.

How To Reduce Your Risk Of Catching Swine Flu:

  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, using a tissue
  • Throw the tissue away quickly and carefully
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • Clean hard surfaces (like door handles and remote controls) frequently with a normal cleaning product

My Motto is no matter how fit, healthy and indestructible you think you are, be prepared and ready for the next wave of swine flu. We have to especially keep our guard up in a place like London, where the potential for the virus to be spread or caught is huge. Whether it is on the overcrowded tubes, busses, streets, bars, shops, sporting events, tourist attractions or in your place of work.
