Singin’ In The Rain at the Palace Theatre
On Thursday evening I headed to the Palace Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue to watch what I will describe as a feel good musical, “Singin’ In The Rain” courtesy of Superbreak.
Watching a musical in a beautiful and historic London theatre is always a great experience, especially so when it’s a very good musical. As I’m sure most people know, Singin’ In The Rain is based upon the classic film of the same name starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds.
Singin’ In The Rain is a musical comedy, and this production at the Palace Theatre does what it is meant too, which is provide the audience with a lot of laughs, and those classic songs such as Make ‘Em Laugh, You Are My Lucky Star, Good Morning, and of course Singin’ in the Rain are sung and performed well. It was good to see a nice balance between the amount of dialogue and singing that took place during the show.

The standing ovation at the end of the show, and all the happy faces were an indication of how much everyone enjoyed themselves. I’m glad I wasn’t in the splash zone – the front couple of rows closest to the stage – because they must have had about 1 tonne of the 14 tonnes of water used in each performance splashed on them. The water is recycled and pumped back into a 10 ton water tank located in the orchestra pit.
I was almost hoping that it would be raining when we left the Palace Theatre so we could head along Shaftesbury Avenue “dancin’ and singin’ in the rain…” Unfortunately it wasn’t raining, but that didn’t stop us form singing those infectious words from Singin’ In The Rain as we headed home…
Singin’ in the Rain is a musical which will most definitely bring a smile to your face and having you feeling good about life. Superbreak offer a wide range of city breaks, weekend breaks and theatre breaks in London, and beyond…
