Severe Winter Weather Conditions In London

Severe winter weather conditions in London, I’m of course having a wee laugh with you all. There hasn’t been too much snow in London, well not for a loon born and bred in the North East of Scotland. It has all been a wee bit tame if you ask me.

I was loving it the other day when the snow was pelting down. Things were looking promising that we were going to get a decent amount of snow in the Big Smoke. A quick look at the BBC weather forecast at the start of week told me there was going to be some heavy snow falls during the later parts of this week. They got it all wrong once again. I’m glad I don’t waste money on a TV license or I would be wanting some money back for their incompetence.

Putting it mildly the pavements are a wee bit slippery in Kilburn. It is quite obvious that the council never gritted any of the side streets. It must be a nightmare for old people having to walk on them. It’s a fucking disgrace.

I was out for a power walk yesterday morning and a few exercises at the local park, some chin ups and dips. It was maybe freezing cold and the pavements were a wee bit icy, but I didn’t let that stop me. I just made sure I wrapped up real good.

I was walking at a fairly brisk pace as I pounded along the icy pavements. There is no point in going for a power walk and walking slowly. An old Caribbean woman says to me, “slow down son or you will slip and hurt yourself”. I explained to her I was exercising and then she clocks the Scottish accent and asks me if I’m from Scotland and where abouts. I told her Aberdeen and would you believe that she has a nephew on the oil rigs up there.

The old woman, then says this weather will be nothing compared to what I’m use to back home. That is very true. The council in Aberdeen is much like in London, the fuckers always seem to forget to grit the pavements to save a few pennies. I can remember driving to work on many occasions in total white outs with barely any visibility. Those days were such a buzz and a real test of your driving skills.

Back home in Aberdeen we would have had to be snowed in to be given a day off work. And even then they would have asked us why we didn’t have a shovel to dig ourselves out.

What I find truly funny in London is the snail like speed some people walk at when the pavements are tad slippery. It seems that people are petrified to fall on their asses. Or is it more to do with having their egos bruised. Well if you fall on your ass, have a wee laugh about it and pick yourself up. Its all part of the fun of snow.

I have fallen on the streets in Aberdeen many times, usually when I have connected with a bit of black ice. And when that happens there is only one place you are going and that is ending up with your ass on the cold ground. I miss those days.
