Sanctuary In The Heart Of London For The Weary Traveller

There is nothing quite like the buzz of wandering around the old and historic areas and buildings of London. It is almost like jumping in Doctor Who’s Tardis and being transported 100 of years back in time, to embark on an amazing adventure.

One of London’s most famous, historic and iconic buildings is Westminster Abbey, which I’m sure even the Eskimos in the North Pole have heard of and have probably seen the pictures. This place is over 700 years old and receives over a million visitors every year, so it’ get’s  kind of busy.

As anybody that is familiar with wandering around the tourist attractions and the centre of London will be aware, that it is a throng of madness, with people and cars rushing around all over the place, going about their business. But even amongst all the craziness of this city, it is still possible to escape from it, if you really want to that is.

It was by chance one day that I found the  Cloisters of  Westminster Abbey  and a great find they were too. Sometimes just by aimlessly wandering around, you will occasionally find some truly  amazing places in London. But don’t try this in Peckham, you could end up getting mugged!

For me the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey are a great place to escape the busyness of the city. I find it a great place to just sit down for an hour or so and just do noting apart from chill out. Once upon a time, the Cloisters were one of the busiest parts of the Church. Nowadays it is probably one of the quietest parts.

The Cloisters were also used for meditation by the Monks, which I can relate too, because I get a real feeling of tranquillity whenever I sit there taking things easy. The beauty of the building, along with the history of the place make it an inspiring place to hang around in, till it is time to get back to the buzz of the city.

  1. Beautiful place.. I’ll be sure to drop by there if I go to London.. :)

  2. sounds tranquil – is it free entry?

  3. It is free to wander around in the Cloisters, the college garden and St Margaret’s Church. It however costs a small fortune to visit Westminster Abbey itself.

  4. What a great find. I will take note when we plan to visit London in a near future.
