Rising Sun Smithfield Pub – Sam Smith’s Quest Round 12
The Rising Sun, which is a Sam Smith’s pub is located a stones throw from Smithfield Market… it can be found down a characterful alley next door to Priory Church of Saint Bartholomew the Great. I have visited this pub a few times in the past, in fact anytime I’m in the area and in need of a decent pint of ale I will pop in – I guess you could say I like this pub!
The Rising Sun looks like an old school boozer from the outside, just like so many of the Sam Smith’s London pubs do. Inside is very much in keeping with the exterior! Dark wood panelling, dark linoleum floor, old pictures on the walls, a mini library, dart board and a selection of board games are there to keep the punters amused. And best of all they have well kept Old Brewery Bitter on cask… and at £2.72 this is a steal.

On my last visit to the Rising Sun which was late on a Saturday afternoon, there must have been about 15 customers in the bar with me – 5 students playing dominoes, a gay couple, a couple, two East End of London peroxide blonde sisters and one of their boyfriends and 3 old timers. A real mix of people. The good thing about visiting this wee gem of pub at the weekend is that there are no city suits to spoil the atmosphere!

As is the norm with Sam Smith’s pubs there is no music, but who needs music when you have the drama of listening to a real life soap opera of the blonde sisters, or I should say the gangsters molls! It was impossible not hear them…
The Rising Sun is a wee gem of Sam Smith’s London pub which offers up a decent pint of real cask ale.
