Queens Park Ping Pong Battle Between Scotland and Botswana
The day had finally arrived for the legendary Scottish based London blogger William K Wallace to meet the African Princess in a game of table tennis. At precisely 11am on Saturday 21 August at Queens Park in North West London…the game was on.
At various locations all over the crazy city of London for the past 4 weeks, 100 ping pong tables had temporary homes at London landmarks, squares, stations, estates, pubs, parks, and airports. There was of course bats and balls supplied, and it was all for free. All you had to do was turn up and have a wee bit of fun. Because I’m the sort of guy that likes to not only write about things, I actually like to do things for real, I of course got off my lazy bottom and headed down to the local park for a few games.

The African Princess had been back home in Botswana for a family visit for three weeks, which meant she hadn’t been able to get any table tennis practise. In fact she hadn’t played table tennis for about 20 years, which is just the sort of opponent I like when money is at stake! It was about time Scotland won at a sporting event, and I was the man to do it…probably.
All the practise I had put in during the past few weeks had paid dividends, I was on fire…I was sharp, fast and there was nothing I couldn’t do with the table tennis bat…apart from juggle it, which I tried but it nearly bounced off my head! Table tennis maybe isn’t the most exciting game in the world, but it is fun and a good laugh, as well as providing a wee bit of exercise.
So who triumphed in the monument table tennis battle between Scotland and Botswana at the most sacred of Ping Pong venues, Queens Park. Who do you think? At the end the day it wasn’t about winning an irrelevant little game of Ping Pong, I won by seeing my African Princess smiling, laughing and having a good time…
