A blog about life in London

Queen Elizabeth Hall Rood Garden

Queen Elizabeth Hall Rood Garden

I walked up the yellow spiral staircase of the Queen Elisabeth Hall on London’s South Bank and discovered a fantastic roof garden. Definitely not what I was expecting to find on the top of a brutal 1960′s concrete building… hell no!

It just show you the last time I walked up the yellow spiral staircase because the Queen Elizabeth Hall Rood Garden has been open since last year… as they say better late than never! The garden was created as a partnership between the South bank Centre and the Eden Project.

The QEH roof garden is a beautiful place, a wondrous natural oasis stuck slap bang in the middle of a concrete jungle. During my recent visit on a Saturday afternoon I shared the garden with a handful of people and a pint of Somerset Cider cider… a magical moment!

The Queen Elizabeth Hall Rood Garden is open from 10am until 10pm each day until end of October. The Roof Garden will be closed to public from the 1st November 2012 over the winter period and will reopen in Spring 2013. It’s shame that the garden shuts down for the winter… go enjoy it while you can.
