The music was loud, the costumes were stunning and the crowds were huge…it could only be the Notting Hill 2010 Carnival. The biggest street party in Europe was truly under way on bank holiday Monday  as a teaming mass of humanity, countless floats and masqueraders paraded along the 3.5 mile long route through  the streets of West London.

Notting Hill Carnival sure wasn’t the place to be if you don’t like loud music and huge crowds, but I know most of the readers of ‘London Is Cool’ have some life left in them and that they love a party. What other major event in London can you go to and get so much fantastic entertainment for free and on top of that 3 cans of lager for £5, or a delicious plate of Caribbean food for 6 quid. And don’t you just love those rather enterprising people renting out there loo’s for 2 quid a pop!

It was good to see Mayor Boris Johnson there getting into the spirit of things and having a good time….maybe he aint as big a bore as I thought he was. Boris does however need someone to give him a wee bit of style advice!

I spent about 7 hours at the Carnival on Saturday and I didn’t see one bit of trouble, only people having a great time, enjoying the Caribbean vibe. And that is what Notting Hill Carnival is all about…
