Opium Cocktail and Dim Sum Parlour: China Town London

Last night I headed over to China Town for a visit to the Opium Cocktail and Dim Sum Parlour, located on Gerrard Street to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the year of the Snake…

Opium isn’t the easiest of places to find… hidden behind a rather normal looking jade coloured front house door, but inside what greets you is anything but normal! There are three floors, with loads of different, very cool and atmospheric rooms, each of which has it’s own distinct personality. At times I almost felt like I had been transported back in time, to a 19th century Chinese gambling house, brothel, drugs, drinking den: for some strange reason I felt like I was in a good place!

In one of the rooms you will find an apothecary table with bar tenders creating exotic and wondrous cocktails, which feature chi-enhancing herbs that will literally blow your mind like some elicit drug, but in a better and much more healthy way! In other rooms you will find quiet corners where you can sit and relax with a pot of tea, or whatever rocks your boat! The next time I go I’m tempted to bring a pack of cards!

I never had a chance to sample much of the Dim Sum, however the few bits and pieces that I did manage to eat such as the dumplings tasted quite good. Prices are what you would expect to pay in the cooler sort of places in the China Town/Soho area of London…

Opium Cocktail and Dim Sum Parlour is a fairly new addition to the drinking/eating scene in China Town and from my first impressions it is worth checking out, especially if you are looking for something a little bit different, with lots of  atmosphere.
