One Scotsman, One Question – London
I woke up this morning suffering from amnesia. I had something important to do today and for the life of me I cant remember WHAT. I have been racking my brains for hours trying to figure out what I had to do or where I was meant to be.
One Scotsman in London, One question. A very simple question, WTF am I meant to be doing today? An even simpler answer I wish I had a clue. I wouldn’t feel so bad if I could blame my amnesia on drinking too much last night, but not a single drop of booze went down my throat yesterday.
I’m trying not to think about, trying to remember what I have forgotten. I would close my eyes, calm my mind, clear my thoughts and try to visualise what it is I have planned, but unfortunately it is a bank holiday today and the Polish guys up stairs have a day off work. And they must have bought a new hardcore dance music cd because they are playing it to death. Their taste in music is so fucking bad, I think even traditional Polish music would sound better than that annoying shit they are listening too.
Fifty People, One Question – London, have you seen the video that has been kicking around on the world wide web. I guess it is one of those videos that you either love or hate. I finally got around to watching most of it last night, I amazingly managed to get to the 6 minute mark when the music and non stop atmospheric camera shots started to really bore the hell out of me. The last time I tried to watch it many months ago, I couldn’t get past the first guy who they asked the question “ to wake up” . I’m sorry to say I just found the guy so fucking annoying and boring I couldn’t take any more.

The website I originally watched it on had the title of the video listed wrongly as 50 Londoners, One Question. I sat down to watch it intrigued because I was amazed that they had found 50 Londoners wandering around in London. I have been living here for 15 months and during that whole time I doubt if I have met 50 locals. I have met plenty of Irish, Yanks, South Africans, Aussies, Indians, Africans, and people from closer to home such as Geordies, Scousers, Mancunians but Londoners they are in short supply.
As I thought the video was a very multi cultural and only a handful of people who were asked the poignant question , “To wake up” were actually born and bred Londoners, most of them were just like me someone that currently calls London their home. And by the way the tittle of the video was actually Fifty People, One Question – London.
I would have found the video much more entertaining if they could have asked the question to a larger cross section of society instead of some of the bores they videoed. Why didn’t they ask a homeless person, a boozed up old drunk, a Polish prostitute, a young child, a wannabe gangster all of whom are pretty easy to find in London. Anyway I feel the filmaker tried a wee bit too hard to make it seem more important and ground breaking than it actually is. Too much fucking atmospheric camera work which is cool in moderation and some boring music and people think it is amazing. As I said at the beginning you either love it or hate it, guess which category I fall into.
I know where I’m going to wake up, which is just where I want to be, unless those Polish clowns upstairs are blasting out their music, then I would rather be some place where they aint or I should say I wish they were waking up some place else…! Just keeping it real….
