Notting Hill Underground Tube Station Time Warp
London is a city full of hidden alleyways, secret parks and countless abandoned underground stations, which are known as…Ghost Stations. There are seemingly as many as forty dotted all over London. Hopefully one of these days I will get the opportunity to enter the subterranean and spooky like world of closed stations, such as Aldwych or Down Street. I can live in hope!
Just recently an amazing discovery was made at the Notting Hill Gate Tube Station, when some well preserved advertising posters dating from between 1956 to 1959 were recenlty found by workmen. A long forgotten area of the station, which had been blocked off when the the stations lifts were taken out of operation and replaced with escalators, have amazingly been rediscovered after almost 50 years. And unbelievalbe the posters look much like they did when they were sealed off from the world all those years ago.

The hidden posters of Notting Hill Station are a fantastic discovery that I’m sure thousands of locals and tourist alike would love to see for themselves. If you are interested in seeing them, just head over to Notting Hill and ask a friendly member of London Underground to let you see the posters. I’m of course having a laugh…there are unfortunately no plans at the present time for the posters to made accessible for public viewing. Hopefully at some point in the future someone with a bit of foresight within the Mayors Office will figure out how to make a feature out of them, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on this happening.
Don’t those 1950′s posters look so much more interesting, vivid and fun than the sterile unimaginative crap that we are subjected to nowadays on London Underground. It seems to me that these hidden Notting Hill posters wouldn’t look out of place in the Tate Modern, which is something that is kinda disturbing considering how many millions of pounds the so called art in that place cost.
You can check out the rest of the posters that were discovered at Notting Hill underground tube station on flickr…

Love this sort of stuff and well reported on – saw the report on the news today so thought I would check it out of here – I too would love to see all the underground history – you would like a programme that was on once about the ghost of the underground – was very spooky – Great site, always like looking at it all – should be in Regents Park tonight for the food and drink.
