Notting Hill Children’s Carnival Pictures
Sunday saw the start of the 2010 Notting Hill Carnival, which is of course the day when the youngsters get their chance to become masqueraders and show off their costumes and have some fun. For those of you that have never been to Carnival or don’t appreciate huge crowds, hard core partying, general mayhem and noise, Sunday is a good day to go, because it is relatively tame in comparison to the main event on the Monday. And in my mind it is well worth going to watch.
I was going to give the Children’s Notting Hill Carnival a miss this year, I didn’t want to go into Carnival overload, as I had been to the Panorama 2010 Steel Band competition on Friday evening. And I was feeling a tad bit tired. Sometimes you have to rest when your body tells you to and mine was screaming rest…rest…rest Wandering Scotsman.
My African Princess was working on Sunday so I walked her down to Kilburn Park Station so she could get her tube to work, as I do from time to time. I was heading back home, when I heard some music from the Carnival away in the distance. By the time I got home… and after a wee bit of contemplation I found myself making the 45 minute hike over to beside Westbourne Park tube station…I couldn’t resist the lure of the Caribbean vibe.
Unfortunately I arrived there near the tale end of the Carnival and only caught about an hour of it, which was a pity because it was such a good event. And much, much more quieter and laid back than the main event on Bank holiday Monday.
The music was good, the costumes were amazing and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time…which is what Notting Hill Carnival is all about. After the last float went past…a few minutes later I found myself in a nearby park, munching on a curried chicken pate and with a Carib lager in my hand, listening to a DJ’s set. A perfect way to round off the evening…
