Notting Hill Carnival Is The Place To Be

Notting Hill Carnival Is The Place To Be

Sunday was the first time I have ever attended the Notting Hill Carnival and as I found out this is kids day, when people under the age of 21 get to do their thing. I must admit some of those youngster sure know how to get into the spirit of the Carnival and it was good to see so many people enjoying themselves both form the participants and the crowd.

Having travelled to Barbados many times and having lived there recently for 9 months, it was good to experience the buzz and vibe of the Caribbean again. The sights, sounds and as well as the smells of the fine Caribbean food were all around, I just wish I could have found some Piton, Carib or Banks beer, now that would have really been amazing.

I’m not going to write some clichéd stuff about the history of the Notting Hill Carnival, because you can find a thousand articles written about it already. But what I will say that is that I have heard rumours about the Mayor Buffoon Boris and his bunch of muppets, wanting to get involved, well they need to keep well away. Quite simply because they will totally fuck it up and destroy it.

Also a wee bit of advice for all those moaning and whinging people that live in Notting Hill that I have read about online. Instead of crying about it, escape from your ivory tower and get out and enjoy yourself, or fuck off for the weekend. Notting Hill Carnival isn’t going anywhere, if you cant handle the buzz and excitement of an event like this, you maybe need to put in some ear plugs and go to the bathroom and do what ever it is that excites you.

Well if you are not going to the Notting Hill Carnival today you are missing out on a fun packed and entertaining event, I cant wait to get back there today to experience the sweet sounds of the Steel Pans, along with the sounds of Calypso and Soca.

Before I went to yesterdays Carnival I was a wee bit worried about the fact that the authorities were trying to have the volume turned down, what a bunch of jokers. Thankfully Notting Hill was nice and loud and the fact it took a few hours for my hearing to get back to normal is an indication of the loudness.

I’m off to the off license to buy a bottle of Mount Gay rum, the finest rum I have ever tasted. I just wish you could get the Mount Gay Sugar Cane Brandy version in London, but the normal stuff will do nicely. I need to drink some run in the hope that it will make my poor white body move with some rhythm. It is true white people just cant dance and I witnessed hundreds proving that yesterday.
