Notting Hill Carnival 2010 Get Ready To Party

Notting Hill Carnival 2010 is creeping up on us again…it is only 10 days away until the the sounds and smells of the Caribbean will blasting out  along the streets of Notting Hill for the biggest and best party of the year in London. This is the perfect excuse I have been looking for to buy myself a bottle or two of Mount Gay Rum from Barbados, one of the best rums there is…

Carnival Nottinghill is an event that I made it to last year for both the Sunday and Monday events and the atmosphere and vibe was amazing…it was buzzing. This years Notting Hill Carnival takes place on Sunday 29th and Monday 30th of August 2010. The Sunday is of course the day when the youngsters get there chance to participate and get dressed up in there costumes and the Monday is when the adults get the chance to do their thing!

I was truly amazed and impressed by many of those amazing costumes that I clapped eyes on last year. It was good to see so many people having fun and getting into the Carnival spirit, which is of course a celebration of the West Indian culture…the music, food, drink and of course the participants dressed up in their vibrant costumes, walking next to the floats with the sounds pumping out.

Way back in the old days the of the  Notting Hill Carnival the music would have been all about the steel bands, Soca & Calypso, which are the sounds you would have primarily heard. Nowadays you are likely to hear Reggae, R&B, Funk, House, Dub and much more…thankfully the more traditional stuff will still be well represented. I love those sweet sounds of the Steel pans.

I wouldn’t miss the Notting Hill Carnival 2010 for anything…this is going to be one huge and exciting party. This year I need to find a stall selling Piton Lager, that is truly a delicious brew and come to think of it, I better find one selling Carib Lager…and I better not forget Banks Beer as well…I’m going to party.

My personal advice is to get there nice and early if you want to get a good view because the whole route is going to be heaving with people. For information about getting there visit  Notting Hll Carnival Directions.

  1. Thanks for recommending this! I’ve been hearing about it and wondering if it’s worth the crowds. It sounds like a fun time.

  2. It sure is fun, but the crowds especially on the Monday are huge…
