Not Quite A Perfect Day In The Day In The Life Of A London Blogger

By the time I reached Kilburn Park tube station earlier on this morning I was kinda wet. It was one of those days where it was hard to tell if it was going to be raining for the whole day or whether it would suddenly go off. It was only rain after all, it wouldn’t kill me and I sure as hell wasn’t going to allow it to put a damper on my day.

For a change I was bang on schedule. I got to Liverpool street station in around 30 minutes, which was a minor miracle. Well done TFL you are getting good. There were  no hold ups, no line faults, no getting held up by a red light or waiting for the train in front to clear the station!

I had my little piece of paper with my directions on it so I would get to Spitalfields for the Fire & Stone restaurant launch  without getting  lost. I don’t like being late for events, it is just plain old bad manners. I was wandering along without a care, happy in my own little world, when  my chain of thought was interrupted by a lost Cockney, who was, you could say ever so slightly pissed!  He was heading home from a night out on the tiles. It must have been some night out, it was now 9.45am, he was looking for Charring Cross Station, all I knew was  that is was far…

Fire & Stone – My first port of call was the Fire & Stone restaurant launch at Old Spitalfields Market, which I shall write about tomorrow. But lets just say this place is the business – great food, stylish and comfortable premises, and people running the company that are unbelievable passionate about what they do.

Truman’s beer – I read an article in one of the free rags during the week about the rebirth of Truman’s beer in the East End of London. Once upon a time Truman’s was the biggest brewery in the world way back in the 1870′s. However the company lost sight of what it was meant to be doing and went out of business in 1989 – the brewery was shut down and all their pubs were sold off.

A couple of entrepreneurs have recently acquired the company name and have launched their first bitter, called Truman’s Runner, using an old recipe found in the companies archives. At the present time there are only 5 pubs currently stocking the bitter and one of those pubs, The Water Poet was only a stones throw from Fire & Stone, so off I went to sample a real piece of history in a pint glass. Thankfully the rain had went off, in fact it was turning into quite a nice day, and after all that fine food I was looking forward to sampling a pint of Truman’s Runner. I must say The Water Poet is a rather nice looking pub. I asked the girl for a pint of Truman’s Runner, I was getting excited…I could feel the buzz, that was until the barmaid said ‘sorry its off!’…WTF.

Crazy Golf – I had seen a pic on twitter of a Crazy Golf course being set up down at More London which had intrigued me. I couldn’t find any information online about this, so I thought I would take a wee walk down and see what was happening. Or I should say, what was not happening, there was no crazy golf. There was nothing going on apart from tourists galore enjoying being in London. I hate it when a plan doesn’t come together – that reminds me I need to go see the A-Team movie.

Barclays Live Dance – Because I’m sometimes touched by madness, I thought I would walk over to Leicester Square, which was a big mistake because it took a lot longer than I thought it would and my feet were killing me by the time I got there. I was a bit worried that I might have got there too late. As I approached Leicester Square, I noticed dancers still dressed in their dance gear heading home. My day was turning into a disaster. Luckily I would get to see the top five acts perform, some live music from a King’s of Leon tribute band and a couple of professional dance groups doing their thing. I will be writing a wee piece about this tomorrow, lets just say there is a lot and I mean a lot of talented dancers in London. Barclays Live was an event worth watching.

Any thoughts of seeing what else was happing in London, after I watched the dancers doing there thing was quickly forgotten about. My legs and feet were killing me, there was only one  cure and that was heading home to crash out for a few hours.
