London West End Live | What An Amazing Free Event
I arrived at Leicester Square around 12.10pm on Sunday 20 for the free West End Live musical extravaganza , just in the nick of time to see Stomp…that’s enough said about that in my mind..! I’m sure there are millions of people out there that love it, especially the kids, but I aint one of them.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, which transpired to ensure that I couldn’t make it to Saturday’s event…but such is life and the way things go sometimes. I was just about to head out the door and grab the tube to Leicester Square when it all went wrong..!
West End Live has been up and running for 6 years now and is organised by West Minister Council. It is a weekend of Live performances from many of the top musicals currently on stage in London and there was also a variety of interactive exhibits from some of London’s museums, galleries and tourist attractions…this kept the kids and those adults who still have some spirit and fun left in their souls amused.
The weather was kind on Sunday, there was a wee bit of sunshine and it was reasonable warm…what more could you ask for at an outdoor musical event. After Stomp was finished, I took my fingers out of my ears and opened my eyes again. Next up it was one of the shows that I had been eager to catch a glimpse of, THRILLER LIVE and oh boy am I glad I did. Thriller is a show, which celebrates the career of the King of pop, Michael Jackson. Watching and listing to this brilliant show, reminded me how amazing a singer, song writer and performer Michael Jackson truly was.
My favourite performance of the day was from Jersey Boys, which is The Story Of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I may have never really listened too much to these guys in the past, but for some strange reason I knew every song that they played, ‘Walk Like A Man’, Can’t Take My Eye’s Off You’ and ‘Sherry’ to name but three. Jersey Boys, just like Thriller Live are a couple of shows that I’m going to have to get myself along to see one of these days.
The next two shows up were Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Legally Blonde, which are not really my sort of thing…however both shows got a good reception from the crowd.
A couple of shows that I have seen on more than one occasion are Disney’s The Lion King and Mamma Mia, which need no introduction, because if you haven’t heard of them you have just arrived from another planet. I would have preferred a couple of more up beat numbers from Lion King…and as expected Mamma Mia got the crowd grooving.
We decided to hit the road after Mamma Mia, just like a few thousand other people did and the queues to get out, suddenly became bigger than the queues to get in. I had wanted to hang around until 5pm to see the last 3 acts, which were 1916 the Musical, Burn the Floor, Dover Street, but my little legs were feeling the effects of a busy weekend…

My Mum was there on Saturday! I had not heard of it before she told me it was on. It looks like a lot of fun and I will be sure to catch it next time.

West End Live is a cool event…there is always so much happening in London, especially during the summer months that it is hard to keep track of what’s happening.
