London Walk – Paddington Basin to Primrose Hill Part 2
My Favourite canal walk in London is the stretch of the Regent’s Canal from Aberdeen Place to Camden Loch…it never fails to be put me in a good mood, come rain or shine! And even better, no matter whether I start or end the walk in Maida Vale or Camden there is a good pub waiting to quench my thirst…
The first part of my London Walk – Paddington Basin to Primrose Hill Part 1, had taken me from the Basin to Little Venice in around 40 minutes…I was taking my time! As per usual the gate onto the Regent’s Canal at Aberdeen Place was firmly padlocked shut, WTF! A bit of a pain, which meant me having to cross a busy road instead of enjoying the sanctuary of the canal towpath…

Fortunately the gate to the canal path on Lisson Grove was open and I could get back on with my adventure. Walking past the moored canal boats, with their little chimneys blowing out smoke was a soothing sight, as was the gentle sound of the water caressing the canal bank.

Last Saturday when I walked along Regent’s Canal it was dark…very dark, so dark in fact that I had visions of falling into the murky water, which had me heading back the way I came to Maida Vale and the Robert Browning pub for a few cold ones!
I decided the Canal was a much better place to walk along when it was light and I could see my surroundings…anything could have jumped out at me from the darkness! As the sun started to disappear it become a tad bit chilly, I could feel my fingers starting to numb, but I was prepared with nice a warm pair of warm gloves…you don’t feel the cold when you are dressed for the weather!

As I walked along the canal towpath enjoying the calmness, and beauty of the Regent’s Canal as per usual I looked at the Nash Villas and thought who lives in those properties! The 1%. The value of one of those properties could feed millions of starving people! It’s a fucked up world aright!

By the time I reached Blow Up Bridge, it had become apparent that if I wanted to see the last bits of the fading sun from Primrose Hill that I would have to take a detour and give Camden Loch a miss.
Anytime I walk along the canal I can never resist coming off the towpath for a few minutes to enjoy the view.

Thanks to the wonders of having GPS on my phone I exited Regent’s Canal only a stones throw up London’s poshest hill! One minute I was on the canal beside the London Zoo, the next I was walking up the gentle slope to the top of the hill…which is actually more of a mound than a hill.
The views from Primrose Hill are miles better than what you will get on the London Eye…for real! I made it in time to watch the last bits of sunshine fading away in the distance…the sky looked beautiful.

Even though it was kinda chilly on top of Primrose Hill it was good to see that there was quite a few hardy folks up there enjoying the view. Not all Londoners are soft southern pussies!

Soft southern pussies? Bwahahahahaha. Love it. What a great walk too and I like the pup idea a lot. To err on the side of caution is always a good thing.
Have a terrific day.
