London Sights And Attractions That You Simply Must Visit

London Sights And Attractions That You Simply Must Visit

It is almost my first anniversary and I’m not talking about my relationship with my African princess, what I’m referring to is that I have almost been living in London for a year.

It sure has been a quick 12 months, I just wish I knew where the time has went. I suppose that means I’m getting a wee bit older, but I stopped having birthdays a few years ago, so in retrospect I’m not really getting any older at all.

Living in London is almost like a daily adventure for me, I still get a huge buzz every single time I step out my door to experience life in this amazing city. The funny thing is that I still feel more like a tourist than actually a resident of London. Hopefully that feeling will never disappear.

I know that most tourists who come to London only come here for a short period of time and from personal experience I  know how difficult it can be trying to figure out what sights and attractions to visit. There are so many to choose from.

The best piece of advice that I would give to all tourists who come to London is to take your time and enjoy the place. Don t rush around like a mad person trying to visit the whole city in 3 or 4 days because all you will do is end up missing out.

One other piece of valuable advice that I would give to all tourists that come to London, is when your walking around this city, open your eyes and move your neck! Don’t just walk around looking in front of you, look up, down, to the sides, in fact look everywhere. You will see so much more!

London Is Cool is a blog that has covered thousands of miles on foot wandering around London over the past 12 months. I have never been in any city in the world that compares to the Big Smoke for the walkability factor. There is nothing quite like a walk along the River Thames in central London late at night or even wandering around central London during the day. The vibrancy and life that exists all around you is inspiring, whether its the old buildings colliding together with the modern monsters or the huge diversity of people of different skin colours, nationalities, religions and levels of sanity. It is a heady mix.

Blogging is all about a blogger who is writing their own personal opinion. And in the case of London Is Cool, yours truly William K Wallace I’m going to offer you my own humble opinion as to 5 sights, attractions or places that you should seriously consider visiting in the Big Smoke. I have been to them all numerous times and I never tire of them.

5 London Sights And Attractions That You Simply Must Visit

1. Battersea Power Station – One of London’s most iconic sights, which is well worth taking a walk along the Thames to visit. If you have got two legs that are in fairly good working order and are not scared to walk, I would recommend starting off from Westminster Bride walking along whichever side you prefer and then come back via the opposite bank. A couple of months ago, it was a full moon and there was some snow boarding event on at the old power station, which lit up Battersea Power Station beautifully. The resulting reflection of the building on the River Thames was a sight to behold.

2. Greenwich Park - Greenwich Park in South East London is one of my favourite Royal Parks. It is well worth taking the trip to Greenwich to pay it a visit just for the views from the park alone. However Greenwich has much more to offer than just the park, it is of course a World Heritage Site. There are some amazing free places to visit such as the Royal Observatory, National Maritime Museum and the Old Naval College. To pay Greenwich justice and give it the time it deserves you will need to spend the day there.

3. River Thames – the heart of London is not the Bank of England, it is not the Houses of Parliament and no it isn’t even you Mayor Boris Johnson, it is the River Thames. Whether you walk along the Thames at night or during the day, it is an activity that if you have a heart and soul you will love it. If I don’t walk along the River Thames for a couple of weeks I honestly get withdrawal symptoms that’s how much I miss it. A great walk that I would thoroughly recommend is starting at Westminster Bridge and walking all the way to Tower Bridge and coming back to your starting point via the opposite bank of the river from which you started. Not for the faint hearted, but you can break up the walk with a a bite to eat and a few drinks, however do your research and avoid the rip off tourist traps that deserve to be put out of business.

4. Trafalgar Square – a great place for hanging around in and just watching the world go by. Wander around the place, then grab a seat, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy some serious people watching. There are even a couple of over rated museums full of dusty old paintings and artefacts nearby that you can visit for free.

5. Tower Bridge – one of the most instantly recognisable bridges in the world and one of the most photographed sites in London. I doubt if very many tourists come to London and this place isn’t on their must visit list. Once you have taken your pictures of Tower Bridge go and take the tour, which is well worth going on and a bargain compared to many other overpriced attractions in London.

There we have it a few ideas for things to do and places to visit in London the city of cool, which you cannot fail but to enjoy.

I’ve been living in the UK for almost a year as well (in Hampshire!) and I’ve still not visited 2 of the places you’ve listed above. Feel like a weekend trip to London is now in order. Thanks for the tips!
