London Question Time 2 | London Is Cool

After the popularity of last weeks London Question Time, I have decided to put together another one. I have to give the public what they want, and I suppose it was kinda fun for me racking my brains to come up with the goods.

I just wish Gordon Brown would give all his pals in the banking system what the public wants and that is there heads on a platter. But we all know a few grubby handshakes in some darkened rooms and those crooked bankers will be laughing like mad men as they count there ill gotten bonuses.

It hasn’t been easy racking my brains trying to come up with another 10 questions and answers for this weeks instalment of London Question Time 2. But after a lot of scratching of my head and deep thinking I feel finally came up with the goods.

London Question Time 2

1. Who were London’s first professional football club?

The first professional football club in London where Arsenal who turned professional in 1891. They were originally founded in 1886 and were known as Dial Square.

2. How tall is the iconic “The Clock Tower”, I have confused some of you now – it is more commonly known as Big Ben.

The Clock Tower or if you prefer Big Ben stands at 96.3m (316ft).

3. Where and  when did the first BBC telecast take place?

The first BBC telecast went out live from Alexandra Palace, which originally housed the BBC’s television studio on the 2nd of November 1936.

4. We all know the Olympics are coming back to London in 2012. However when was the last time the Olympics were held  in London?

The last Olympics which were  held in London took place in the summer of 1948, officially known as the Games of the XIV Olympiad. The opening ceremony took place on the 29 July 1948.

5. Who was the first ever elected Mayor of London.

The Mayor of London is currently Boris Johnson. Ken Livingstone officially become the first elected Mayor of London on the 4th of May 2000.

6. How many boroughs are there in London.

There are 32 boroughs that currently make up London –  Sutton, Enfield, Barnet, Harrow, Lewisham, Greenwich, Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Newham, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Bromley, Islington, Camden, Brent, City of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Ealing, Hounslow, Bexley, Hillingdon, Croydon, Richmond, Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Hammersmith and Fulham Wandsworth, Lambeth.

7. When was the FA founded. or if you prefer the Football Association, which is the worlds oldest football organisation?

The Football Association (FA) was founded on the 26th of October 1863 in a pub called the Freemason Tavern, which is now called the Freemasons Arms, I think I prefer the original name. It is located in Covent Garden.

8. The biggest grossing movie of 1994 was Four Weddings and a Funeral, do you remember the second wedding in the movie between Bernard and Lydia, where did the wedding take place?

The wedding took place at beautiful “The Chapel of St Peter and St Paul”, at the old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

9. How many bridges cross the River Thames in London.

There are a grand total of 33 bridges crossing the River Thames in London, there are 12 public bridges in the centre, Battersea Bridge, Albert Bridge, Chelsea Bridge, Vauxhall Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge, Millennium Bridge, Southwark Bridge, London Bridge, Tower Bridge.

And there are 3 rail bridges in the centre, Blackfriars rail bridge (+Pedestrian walkway), Charing Cross rail bridge, Grosvenor Rail bridge

There are a further 17 bridges west of Battersea Bridge until you reach Hampton court bridge which is the last in London.

Going East you also have the Queen Elizabeth Suspension bridge near Dartford.

10. What is the only true Scottish Pub left in London?

It is of course the Rob Roy in Paddington.

There we have it London Question Time 2 and you never know when one of these could pop up on Mastermind  or the pub quiz.
