London Movie Tour

London Movie Tour

Saturday morning at around 9.30am I boarded the luxury mini coach of Brit Movie Tours to embark upon one of their tours called the London Movie Tour. I was looking forward to seeing what famous British movie and television sites we would be visiting, as well as whether I would actually recognise any of them.

My memory isn’t what it used to be. However I needn’t have worried because they showed clips from many of the films, prior to visiting the location to remind us, which was a nice touch that went down rather  well.

The tour lasted for around 3 hours and during that time I got the chance to see some, very familiar movie and TV locations, many of which I instantly recognised and amazingly they looked exactly like they did when on screen. My personal favourites were Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, The Da Vinci Code, Closer and Alfie.

For me living in London is almost like living in a never ending movie and some of the places that we visited during the tour, I had walked past them during my adventures around the city, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on where I had seen them before. For example I have walked down Fleet Street heading towards St Paul’s Cathedral on numerous occasions and I just couldn’t remember what film the scene I had in my head was from. Thankfully the Brit Movies tour guide doesn’t miss a thing and it was of course from Children of Men starring Clive Owen.

When I’m at a loose end I often head into central London and walk around, without a set agenda until I got bored or tired, whichever comes first. Most of the time I haven’t got a clue where I have been or how I got there, which is just the way I like it. On one such day a few weeks ago, I popped into a place called the Regency Cafe for a bite to eat and a cup of tea, little did I know that I had sat at the table, which Daniel Craig the latest thuggish incarnation of James Bond, sat during a scene from the movie Layer Cake.

I sometimes have a low boredom threshold and I must admit that before I stepped on to the coach for the London Movie Tour I thought that 3 hours was a long time to be on a tour, how wrong I was. The 3 hours flashed by unbelievable quickly, that’s how much I enjoyed myself during this wonderful tour. What I liked about the tour was that it is more than just a a tour guide talking incessantly, but the fact that they used clips from movies to enhance the experience and it was also good to get off the coach on two occasions to see a couple of well known film locations closer up!

London is one of the most popular film locations in the world and as a new local I can clearly see why this city is such a popular place for movie makers. I can also  clearly see  why Brit Movie Tours, is going to become a must do tour in London….
