Illegally Living In London

Since I started living in London, I have personally met four people that are classed as illegal immigrants. They have believe it or not, been living in Britain for a total of 27 uninterrupted years. Can you imagine living in a country for such a long time, in the knowledge that you could potentially be sent back to your homeland at any given moment in time.

During all those years that they have been living as illegal immigrants in London, they have had to work, to pay for a roof over their heads, bills and basically to survive. They don’t have the luxury of unemployment benefit, child benefit, working tax credits or any other hands outs from the British Government. If they don’t work, they have serious problems.

I know the Major of London Boris Johnson, is in favour of an amnesty for those that have been living in Britain illegally for at least 5 years, in his own words, “it is morally right”. I feel that I have to agree with him on this issue.

There is an estimated 750,000 illegal immigrants in the UK, a large percentage of which are living in London. Most of them are law abiding citizens, hard working and many of them have very firm roots in this country. Many of them have also formed relationships and even have children at school.

I know the BNP supporters will be foaming at the mouth and steam will be coming out of their ears as they read this article. But guys if they are all sent home, you guys will have to stop claiming so many benefits and be sent out to work, because there will be know one to do the jobs that you are unwilling to do.

I feel that it is about time that the British Government did something forward thinking and morally correct for a change. The costs of sending all the illegal immigrants back to wherever they came from, will cost Billions of pounds and take countless years. The benefits of having an amnesty are that all those that are working illegally can start contributing to the tax system, which far out weighs the costs of allowing them to live here permanently.

Lets face reality there are hundreds of thousands of people from various countries that have managed to escape the law in Britain quite easily and the chances of them getting caught are slim. Lets give them a chance and take them out of the hands of the gangsters and criminals and get them contributing to the system in the UK legally.

As we all know, many of those that are seeking a better life, have came from countries that good old Britain, once upon time plundered and used for their own benefit, as well as greed. We maybe need to reflect on what we as a nation did in the past to shape the world and how it effects things today.

It is time for the British Government to finally see the light and do the right thing. I know it is thorny issue but something has to be done for the sake of humanity. The bottom line is, that it is a problem that won’t go away and the Government is never in a million years going to be able to catch and send back even a small percentage of the illegal immigrants that are here. Maybe they need to do more to stop anymore arriving here and just get on with officially welcoming our new brothers and sisters to there new country!
