Hypercomics at the Pump House Gallery
Yesterday afternoon I took a trip over to Battersea Park to a have wee gander at the Hypercomics: The Shape of Comics to Come exhibition at the Pump House Gallery. This is truly a great little contemporary gallery in a fantastic location. And I better not forget to mention that it is a free exhibition.
I had read a few good things about the exhibition and thought I would head over that way and in the process kill two birds with one stone – I have been meaning to visit Battersea Park for quite sometime. It was an interesting sounding exhibition, that even if it proved not to be my thing, I could still chill out at the park and feed the ducks and stuff!
The Pump House Gallery may not be the biggest exhibition space I have ever came across but there was a lot going on over the 4 floors – some of it, which I found quite original and some of it I just didn’t get. Maybe I didn’t try hard enough to engage myself with what was going on!
On the ground floor of the Pump House Gallery it was dedicated to Montague Terrace, by Warren and Gary Pleece, which was rather quite good. It was interesting and entraining prying into the lives of the Paul Gregory, Mrs Beatrice Green, Marvo the Magic Bunny and the Puppeteer.
‘The Rut’ by Dave Mckean, which was on the 2nd floor, revolved around three characters viewpoints of an assault in a park, as revealed by the Perpetrator, Victim and Witness. This piece I found to be very engaging and got me thinking.
There was other stuff going on by Adam Dant and Daniel Merlin Goodbrey, which I’m sure there are people out there that will appreciate their work better than me.
Hypercomics at the Pump House Gallery in Battersea Park is worth popping in for a look if you are over in that neck of the woods. And if the sun is shining it would be worth going out of your way to spend some chilling out time at the park, and combining it with the exhibition…
