How To Boost Your Alexa Ranking The Proper Way

How To Boost Your Alexa Ranking The Proper Way

How to boost your Alexa ranking is something that most people who take blogging seriously would love to know the answer too. I remember when I started my blog London Is Cool just over a year ago – after a few weeks and a handful of articles I was given a ranking of around 17 million. It was a start, better to have a rank than not have one. Fast forward to July 2010 and my Alexa ranking is slowly approaching the top 100,000.

For all bloggers looking for credibility for their blog, having a good Alexa ranking is a must, along with high a Google Page Rank mine is currently 4,  and decent amounts of traffic. I know that as a ranking system Alexa is not perfect, but along with PR they are two of the main criteria that advertisers look for when buying advertising spots on blogs. At my blogs present level, I have received deals of around £50 per month for small adds, which advertisers have offered me. And I haven’t personally went out and looked for deals. Believe me my own marketing campaign will kick in once my blog gets to the summit of the mountain.

The bottom line for example is that if you have an Alexa rank of say top 50,000 and Google Page Rank of 5 or 6 you are more likely to have advertisers beating at your door than, someone with ranks of 15 million and zero. It doesn’t matter how flawed Alexa is, it is better to work with it than against it.

Whether you like it or not the Alexa ranking system is a badge of honour. Whether you agree with it or not, having a high Alexa ranking does add credibility to your blog and it will help you attract advertising deals.

For those of you that may be new to blogging, you may be wondering what the hell Alexa is. Well let me give you a brief introduction – Alexa collects the data from web sites that have the Alexa toolbar installed. The toolbar helps to calculate the traffic ranking of sites by using the data collected from those that have the toolbar installed on their computer. The big flaw with Alexa, is the factor that not everyone has the toolbar installed..

Okay now that we have that out the of way lets get back on track with how to boost your Alexa ranking. I personally don’t think there is an easy or quick way to boost your ranking. There are probably black hat methods out there that people use, but going down that road will just result in tears in the long run. You will get found out, penalised and basically fuck yourself in the ass.

From personal experience the best way to boost your Alexa ranking that  I have found is to write at least one original article a day. For the past 30 days or so I have been publishing two articles a day and by doing so my blog London Is Cool has got ever closer to that 100,00 level. It has been tough going writing so much and getting out there to get stories, but my goal is to become a pro blogger one of these days and I have to put in the work rate in if I’m going to reach the top of the mountain and achieve my dream. But you know something I love blogging and the more I put into it, the more I get back.

Another top tip that will give your ranking a good initial boost, is to put the Alexa Widget on your blog, this is simple and quick to do. Also make sure you register your blogs details with Alexa. I have also heard through the grapevine from another blogger that one of his top tips was to leave 20 comments a day on blogs with high rankings. I cant verify this one because I leave about 20 comments a week at the present time, I would rather spend time writing articles.

If you want a high Alexa ranking, I don’t think there are any short cuts that will work long term. It has taken me around 14 months to get to the level I’m at now. Over the course of the next 12 months I aim to increase the ranking of my blog to the top 50,000 worldwide and into the top 1000 in the UK. Can I do it, you better believe it…

  1. Very well said.

When I first launched my own domain last March 2010, I had my Alexa rank at 1 million plus something. In less than three months, it already reached the 100,000 top sites. I hit 55,000+ but then currently my blog is at 59,000. I know Entrecard has helped a lot in boosting the traffic. I really did not think much about Alexa before until I found out my rank is dwindling a bit. I could agree with you that creating a regular post every week would aid in taking your Alexa rank to a higher step. Lately, I have not been able to post regularly and is a possible cause for my rank to go down.

I learned a lot from your interesting post. I should place my Alexa traffic rank badge on my site as it will add credibility and attract advertisers.

As far as PR is concerned, my blog is presently at 3.

Thanks a lot especially for accommodating this lengthy comment.
