History In The Making On Trafalgar Squares 4th Plinth
I have submitted my application to basically become a living statue for an hour, standing on top of the 4th plinth at Trafalgar Square in the heart of London. Sculptor Antony Gormley is the creator of this interesting piece of living art, which is called “One & Other”.
“One & Other” began at 9am on the 6th of July 2009, and will last for exactly 100 days, with a new volunteer standing on the Plinth every hour. The beauty of this art project is that you can do anything you want while you are up there. However if you do anything illegal you risk being sent to the Tower of London!
The legendary and heroic like Mayor of London Boris Johnson, opened the proceedings with some immortal words, “Do these toga’d buffoons cast in bronze around Trafalgar Square deserve any more celebration than this person up there? This is the question – that’s what this operation is trying to answer, but I leave it to you.” Boris Johnson has been called a buffoon once or twice himself, so I guess it takes one to know one.
Hopefully, If I’m successful I will be standing aloft the 4th plinth at Trafalgar Square at some point during September. As soon as they confirm my place, I shall be contacting the Queen to see if she can lend me one of those crowns that are locked up in the Tower of London, maybe she could lend me the one that Prince Charles has got earmarked for himself if he were to become king. Because it doesn’t look like he is ever gonna get to wear it in public!
After my enjoyable and very scary Ghost Bus Tour last night, I popped along to Trafalgar Square to have a wee look and see who was doing there thing on the Plinth. I was kind of hoping that there was going to be some buxom naked lady up there trying to becomes Britain’s next celebrity. Failing that, Jack Tweed, would have done nicely, so I could throw rocks at the twat.
Unfortunately my luck was out, but never mind the two people I witnessed up there seemed to enjoy their hour standing 6.7m (22ft) above Trafalgar Square. The big question I’m personally trying to figure out, is whether the “One & Other” art project is something special or it is just a bunch of ordinary people standing for an hour on a big lump of rock.
If I’m lucky enough to be chosen, I just have to figure out what I will to do with my 1 hour standing on the Plinth. I must admit I haven’t really thought about it. Maybe I could showcase my acting talents and land myself a part in the next Quentin Tarantino movie, maybe not! Knowing my luck I will be chosen to stand on it at 4 am in the pissing rain!
