Havana Brings Some Real Rhythm To London
On Sunday afternoon I made it along to the Barbican to watch some of the fantastic Cuban artists, who are part of the Havana Cultura programme of events taking place at the centre to Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution in Cuba. And a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience it was too.
I watched a couple of excellent bands performing and their names, which I unfortunately didn’t quite catch, along with an amazing Cuban dancer who was taking part with the second group. If anybody knows the names of the groups and the dancer let me know. I don’t think there could have been anybody in the crowd that wasn’t impressed with what they heard and saw at the Barbican on Sunday afternoon.
The groups may have been performing for free in a public area within the Barbican, but there was nothing second rate about their performances or the sound quality. It was pure class, as well as tons of passion and rhythm.
My only disappointment was arriving a wee bit too late to the area where the free cocktail classes were taking place, there was a 55 minute wait when I got there. What can I say about this, but that you Londoners move twice as quick as us Scots, when there is something free on the go! My mind and my body couldn’t have taken standing in the queue for such a long time, because the sweet and delicious smell of Havana Club rum was driving me crazy.
