Graffiti City London

Living in London you can’t help but notice the huge amount of graffiti that is all over the place. Everywhere you look you are likely to come across some masterpiece in the eyes of some and just pure vandalism in they eyes of others…I wish somebody would go and spray some graffiti on the windows of that huge big ugly Heron Tower that has sprung up in Central London…Make it look a wee bit more interesting!

Is graffiti really art or is it just plain old vandalism…Well in my humble opinion if some of the crap they have floating around in the Tate Modern is seemingly classed as art and some of which has cost 10′s of thousands of pounds, then I guess you have to say that graffiti is art. In my mind some graffiti tags sprayed on a park bench, (which I don’t agree with by the way) means more to me than some boring old dusty paintings of Britain’s elite that hang in the British Portrait Gallery.

I’m not saying all graffiti art is good, because it sure as fuck aint, most of it is pure crap. If some of those punks think they are indulging in creative expression, they are having a laugh. I get it they spray their initials on a wall or park bench and they think they are the fucking business, YEAH LIKE FUCK THEY ARE! They haven’t got any talent, maybe if their mummies had bought them some crayons and drawing paper when they were little kids they would have maybe progressed on to something more creative…Any fucker can spray their initials…

However occasionally, very occasionally I come across the works of graffiti artists that is a cut above the normal shit that you see all over the place. These guys and girls are talented, they put in the time and effort to create art that has imagination to it. Most of them are not looking for fame or glory, in fact I’m not sure what they are seeking. Maybe it really is all about creative expression.

The twats with no talent what’s so ever that spray their initials and names all over the place must get wet dreams or something from seeing their names on grubby old walls. Because I cant personally see what else they get out of it. WHAT DO THEY GET FROM IT?

A great place to see some iconic graffiti art is of course down by Regents Canal in Camden. Here you will find a few pieces by the legendary British graffiti artists Banksy and King Robbo. Whether you like it or not graffiti art is part of our culture, and more so than 90% of the shit that sits in boring old galleries…

I personally feel that more public places should be set aside for graffiti artists to express themselves. Instead of wasting multi millions building extensions to places like the British Museum or the Tate Modern, which have enough money thrown their way, they need to create more places for graffiti art, which is relevant to a considerable amount of people, especially the kids and the youths…

  1. Graffiti is all over too in NYC but only in the ghettos and lower-class urban towns.
