Good and Evil Side By Side In London

Good and Evil Side By Side In London

Just over a week ago, I was flicking through one of the free London rags, when I came across two stories, which were only a couple of pages apart. The story of two young black men who were worlds apart in the journey their life’s were taking. One was a pure evil murderer the other had just signed a £1 million pound deal with music industry giant Geffen.

The two articles really struck a chord with me. Tayo Jarrett, who is by all accounts an up and coming London version of P Diddy and Jay-Z, who are of course phenomenally successful entrepreneurs. Tayo at the young age of 24 has already launched his own clothing range, has a video production company and has recently signed his record deal. Gavin Grant was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison for shooting a former friend dead, who had robbed a drugs base linked to him. Gavin will be over 51 years old by the time he gets out of prison, if he ever gets out.

Life could have been so different for Tayo Jarrett, way back in 2006 he served a short prison sentence for driving offences and by his own admission his life was gong to nowhere. He managed to look into the future and could see where his life was going, if he never made changes. We all make mistakes and you either swim or drown from them, he chose the right path. He is obviously a talented guy that is working hard to make his dreams happen.

Life could have been so different for Gavin Grant. He had in the past played professional football for Gillingham, Millwall and during his trial for murder and subsequent conviction, he was playing for Bradford City on a non-contract basis. He obviously had the potential to make it as a footballer, but he could never escape the gang mentality and lifestyle that he had known since he was a young boy. Was Gavin Grant born a cold blooded killing gang banger or did society create him?

Tayo Jarrett has got his whole life ahead of him. Where he will have the opportunity to travel the world, party, make money, enjoy life and experience the pleasure of the ladies. Gavin Grant, may get to travel if they change the prison he is in, I don’t think there will be too many opportunities to party, and making money I’m sure someone bigger tougher and uglier than him will extort whatever meagre belongings he has in prison out of him. Whether Gavin Grant will enjoy a life where he has his liberty and freedom taking away from him, you better go ask him that question and as far as girls are concerned I think it is going to be a life of looking at pictures in magazines and self pleasure for at least 25 years, unless he turns gay!

The moral of the story is that we can all choose the road we walk down and for those that are involved in gangs, drugs and a life of crime you should look at Gavin Grant as to where things will end up. Prisons are full of people that thought they were to  smart to get caught…of course they were and the other thing that they are,  is always innocent.

  1. This is a good point! I did not understand as a teen just how much of an impact my decisions would play latter. Luckily I did not have one that put me away for the rest of my life to deal with.
