I don't think I have ever crossed a road and the green man hasn't started to flash whilst I'm still crossing actually...which means motorists and even those insane cyclists have to wait for me to finish crossing before they move off...

Actually... at a pelican crossing, if the green man is flashing, a pedestrian is actually not meant to start crossing. The drivers light turns to flashing orange and by law means that they just have to wait for pedestrians already on the crossing to finish.

Cant remember where I read this, but it was on quite a few websites including gov ones. Common sense would make you think otherwise.

Only country I've been to that has it like this. Usually there is a few seconds delay after the flashing man before the red light ends for the vehicle.

So I guess its not just all the crazy drivers faults. Although, I've noticed that drivers dont really stop (or even show signs of slowing down) at zebra crossings until you are about to get hit in the middle of it.
