Give Me A Break Fu**ing 3 Mobile Broadband
Tuesday the 21st of July 2009 is one of the happiest and most satisfying days that I have had since I started living in London all those months ago. You may wonder what has brought about this feeling of such euphoria elation, well it has to do with 3 mobile broadband and the quality of their internet service or I should say their lack of quality of intenet service.
I have had the misfortune of having had to rely on 3 Mobile Broadband as being the provider of my internet connection for the past 5 months and I have finally broken free of the shackles and pain of having to use them. That is why I’m feeling so pleased with myself and it feels so dam good to be back in the fast lane!
3 mobile broadband has at times been a complete joke, the connection speeds have more often than not been terrible, and if it rained heavily I wouldn’t even able to get a connection, oh I almost forgot to mention the fact that periodically I would l lose my connection totally for up to an hour at a time.
London is meant to be one of the most advanced cities in the world, a city that is very much a 21st century city and a place, which is one of the most important business centre in the world! If however you have the misfortune to use 3 mobile broadband, it would take you about 5 times longer than it should to do anything online if you use them.
I fortunately used 3 mobile broadband on a pay as you go service and I’m not stuck into a lengthy contract like so many disgruntled people out there. I remember when I first started using 3 they assured me the connection speeds would be excellent, that they were just as good as dial up broadband! Give me a fu**ing break, they should have said as good as dial up broadband in 2002!
I hoped when I moved from Shepherds Bush to Kilburn a few months ago that my 3 mobile broadband connection speeds and overall quality of service would improve, well that was nothing but wishful thinking and a dream. Things actually got worse, which I thought would have been impossible.
3 mobile broadband have given me crap connection speeds in all the areas that I have lived or spent a considerable amount of time in London so far, including, Wembley, Northolt, Shepherds Bush and Kilburn. The only positive thing I will say about 3 is that they were better than nothing! But it is the 21st century and if this is the best they can do, they should be more honest and open when they are selling the product and make people aware as to its true capabilities.
Before I bought my 3 dongle I was assured that it would be as good as normal broadband. 3 will make you aware that there are three key factors to consider when purchasing mobile broadband and they are coverage, reliability and speed, well from personal experience I can honestly say they fail miserable on all three counts.
Some may wonder why I used such a poor quality mobile broad band provider such as 3 and it was down to beggars cant be choosers as the saying goes. I had seen T-Mobiles version in action and that unbelievable made 3 look good and it costs even more and I personally tried out virgin and returned it within 7 days and got my money back before I smashed their dongle into a thousand pieces.
Now that I plan on staying in my present home for the foreseeable future, I have installed Virgin Wireless Broadband and all I can say is that it is good to be back in real world and to have finally escaped the living hell of 3 mobile broadband. It feels so good to be able to do stuff online and not have to go and make a cup of tea while I wait for web pages to upload or for something to download.
The bottom line is that mobile broadband is okay for limited use and by that I mean when you are out of the office/home and desperately need a connection whilst away, it is no substitute for fixed line broadband. Not only is fixed line broadband, much, much faster, it is also a hell of a lot cheaper.
My fair and honest review of 3 Mobile Broadband
I can honestly say that 3 mobile broadband is almost as painful as having a tooth pulled at the dentist, but the only difference is that the pain of having a tooth taken out will eventually go away. Whilst the pain of using 3 will only go away when you stop using their pathetic service. 3 mobile broadband speeds are terrible and the service overall is a complete joke.
3 need to be more honest when they are trying to hook in the customers with their lies and half truths as to how good the service is. If you sign up for a contract with 3 and it is painfully slow, don’t think and hope that things are bound to get better, they wont!
My conclusion is that 3 mobile broadband and quite possible all mobile broadband services in the UK are for those that for whatever reason cannot get a fixed line broadband service installed or need something when they are out on the road.
I personally feel that all positive reviews concerning 3 mobile broadband, which I have read online have been written by employees of the company, admittedly there haven’t been many!

Apart from the first 2 weeks (the time I could cancel) I’ve had problem after problem and issue after issue. It’s only free credits which have kept me going. This service is oversubscribed, under maintained, customer services are appalling (see more below), 3 don’t improve as a company year on year (as seen in online reviews). Far too many customers of which I am one are getting a totally unacceptable level of service.
In December 2010, respected consumer magazine ‘Which’ named 3 as having the worst customer services of all of the UK networks. 3 ranked 69th out of 75 across all industries.
An already miserable experience for many looks set to worsen in 2011 as 3 push their new unlimited downloads package for smartphone users. While the leading networks have opted to maintain a responsible approach which doesn’t penalise mobile broadband customers paying for fixed allowances, 3 have chosen to once again demonstrate a complete disregard to customers by “spotting a gap in the market”. Furthermore, 3 will permit tethering – which is the ability to use a sim card in any device, such as a pc or laptop. In other words, users have computer access to unlimited downloads and so this will inevitably worsen a service which is currently the poorest rated in the UK and subject to more negative reviews by customers than any other network in each year since its inception, which was 2008.
It’s therefore clear that the only sensible advice to give to fellow consumers is to avoid 3 and take all business to a reputable network who are better equipped to service both you and your needs.
