Fly By Wire | Ride The Wild Beast

Fly By Wire | Ride The Wild Beast

Speed is a drug, well it is for some people. The thrill of going at breathtaking speeds is the ultimate buzz for them. I personally don’t get any excitement or pleasure from going fast…it doesn’t scare me too much either…maybe just a wee bit.

I have never wanted to jump out of a plane with a parachute strapped to my back or done a bungee jump…no fucking way…that does scare me. If I was meant to fly through the air like that god would have given me wings. And since he never I will give it a miss.

I have been on some of the biggest roller coasters in the world in my time…but that was to hold the hand of my girl at the time and because I didn’t want to look like big wimp…but if I had the choice I wouldn’t have bothered. I got no pleasure from the ride. I was too worried about the beast crashing and ending up dying in a mangled wreck of steel. There was however an indoor roller coaster that was in the dark at Bush Gardens, which I went on 3 or 4 times, that did give me buzz.

A few years back when I was blasting down the A96 at 4am on a Sunday morning in a wreck of Lexus doing a 120mph I kind of got a buzz from that, but not enough to do it again. The car was shaking like crazy and the girl with me was giving me a **** *** this a family orientated blog so I cant say…but it was hot in the car at the time…

Speed you can keep it…why go fast when you can go slow and enjoy the ride…was my motto, until I clapped eyes on a real wild beast that looks like it will give you the ride of your life. Fly By Wire is the name of the beast. It resembles a cross between a rocket ship and a plane and it can reach speeds of up to 106 miles per hour…she looks awesome.

The machine, rocket ship, plane or beast whatever its called is suspended from an overhead cable system, which allows it to fly in circles within a steep-sided canyon. I have never seen anything like it before…the wild beast has a engine on the back so that you can control and steer it, and by all accounts it is easy to drive. That is the kind of ride I could handle and enjoy. And the icing on the cake is that when it accelerates you experience a force of three G’s to weightlessness within a three second interval.

The Fly By Wire web site claims and I kinda believe them, “The ride is red-hot sizzling fun and a huge adrenalin rush. But at the same time the exhilarating speed gives a sensation of peace and serenity, particularly as the plane glides gently to the end of the flight.” I’m not too sure about getting a sense serenity from the ride, but I need to get on it myself to find out for sure.

The only problem is that Fly By Wire is a 20 something hour plane ride away from me…it was invented in New Zealand. I know what your thinking New Zealand that’s the most boring country in the fucking world. Its full of mountains and sheep…and not much else, do they even have woman there? Your wrong! I’m not too sure about the woman situation over there, but it is seemingly a thrill seekers paradise. The Kiwis invented death traps such as Zorbing, Bungee Jumping, Flying Fox Ride, jet boat racing and now Fly By Wire.

I don’t know what it is about Fly By Wire that I find so fucking exciting…I have a funny feeling that this ride is the kinda cheap thrill that I would get a buzz from. Hopefully someone will bring the concept to the UK, because the chances of me sitting on a flight to go all the way to New Zealand is never likely to happen in a million years…!
