EastEnd Cabaret Live At The Cellar Door
EastEnd Cabaret live at the infamous CellarDoor venue in London, was my destination last night. I was finally going to see the much talked about and fabulously talented duo Bernadette Byrne & Victor Victoria live in action performing their special brand of Cabaret.
It was lashing down with rain when I ventured forth from Kilburn last night as I made my way to Aldwych. If I had any sense I would have taken an umbrella with me, but since I don’t I never. I made it to Charring Cross, without any delays, which is a minor miracle for the Bakerloo line recently. I was half expecting those TFL clowns to be using the rain as excuse for providing a crap service!
I love wandering along the Strand, this really is a great London street in my opinion, tons of character and interesting looking bars. I was tempted to nip into the Lyceum Tavern, however being a professional and wanting to be on time…I kept on going through the rain towards my destination, Zero Aldwych.
The number of the Cellar Door is rather strangely zero, which from previous experiences I knew that I was looking for a stairway in the middle of the pavement and thankfully there it was beckoning me down below the ground. It CellarDoor use to be a public toilet once upon a time.
The Cellar Door, must be one of the smallest venues in London, it would be packed out with 40 people…this place oozes character and style. It really is a great wee venue, with friendly bar staff, which is something I don’t come across often enough in London. I was expecting the beer to be extortionate, because the show was free, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Bohemia larger was only £4.20 a pop, not too bad at all.
I bought a couple of beers, I am Scottish after all, got myself a comfortable stool with a prime time view and I was even starting to dry out a bit, all I needed was the divas Bernadette Byrne & Victor Victoria to show me what EastEnd Cabaret was all about.
The show kicks off with real a crowd pleaser, their very own rendition of ‘I’m Too Sexy’ and Bernadette Byrne sure was shaking her little tush on the catwalk…I knew it was going to be a great show from the second Bernadette Byrne introduced the rather strange looking half man half woman Victor Victoria as her own little personal freak.
EastEnd Cabaret is the type of show I like to see. There is plenty of humour and naughty musings that are interwoven into the show, as the mad cap duo tell there stories. The show is held together brilliantly by the great vocal talents of Bernadette Byrne and Victor Victoria who accompanies her perfectly on the keyboard and accordion, she also has a pretty good voice.
My personal favourite renditions of the night were, ‘Is It In Yet’ which is all about Bernadette’s antics to deflower a virgin, ‘Ping Pong’ a piece about…lets just say it involves a bar in Thailand! And of course how could I forget the ‘Little Red Book’ and the naughty demonstration that involved a hammer and a sickle. EastEnd Cabaret is a show that involves plenty of ramblings about sex, love and communism, which makes for a rather interesting show.
EastEnd Cabaret is a thoroughly watch-able and entertaining show in a great little venue, which I would recommend getting yourself along to see. I will be back again to see this show at some point in the future. You can catch the crazy and wonderful antics of Bernadette Byrne & Victor Victoria on the last Wednesday of every month.

Hey William, thanks for the review. Not too possible to wonder about much by my own these days so was looking forward to your cabaret post. I’m just thinking of all the things that can be done with a hammer and a sickle! lol.
It amazed me…!
