Cuban Fever At The Barbican | Havana Cultura Live
What an amazing night was had by all those who attended the Havana Cultura Live New Cuba Sound concert at the Barbican here in London yesterday evning. The sweet sounds and rhythms all the way from Cuba were blasting out for around 90 minutes in Barbican Hall and then for another 120 minutes in the foyer outside the hall. It sure was an evening to remember, I just wish I could have made it to the after show party, but I aint as young as I think I am, and all those things I have to do today and the places I have to be would have been cancelled if I carried on enjoying myself any longer.
To kick start the evening and get myself into the Cuban vibe I had half a dozen delicious Mojitos, which were made from Club Havana Rum, who are incidentally the sponsors of the Cultura Havana initiative. Those Mojitos are just totally fucking amazing. I could have drank those things till I dropped, but because I’m a professional I took things easy..! I wanted to remember the concert, because I had a fair idea how great it was going to be.
Live on stage at the Barbarian was a stunning line up of Cuban musical talent, including the unbelievable talented jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca, this guy is a show stopper. Also on stage was the beautiful Danay Suarez Fernandez who really is a talented singer and artist who has an exquisite voice, her style could be described as mix of hip hop, rap, jazz and r&b. If having Roberto and Danay on stage at the same time wasn’t exciting enough, Cuba’s top hip hop act Oggure were also performing and these guys put on an electric show, they had every single person in the hall, up dancing, singing and clapping. And I better not forget to mention the guru of world music Gilles Petterson, who was overseeing everything – Gilles I think you have found the perfect beat, or as close to it as you could get..!
