Creepy Piano Invasion Is Happening In London
On Saturday afternoon I had a list of things to do, on my be a tourist in London day. First up was the excellent guided tour of the Bank of England, where I was casing out the joint for my one man bank job. Next up was The Monument, which offers some amazing views of London for only 3 quid. I wanted to get up there to see how much the view has changed since the last time I climbed those painful 311 steps, oh boy they hurt like hell. One thing that caught my eye last time I was up there, was the huge amount of cranes that were blighting the London skyline. Such an ugly site.
Upon arriving at The Monument, I could see that the viewing platform at the top looked fairly busy. The last time I was up there a coach load of German tourists arrived and spoilt everything what I nightmare that was. I didn’t feel safe being so far off the ground surrounded by 30 Germans.
I thought I would hang around for a bit to see if things would quieten down a bit. That was when I spotted a creepy looking piano just sitting there in the middle of the square. It looked like it had came straight out of a cheap horror movie. WTF was it doing there. I went over to investigate, and yes it was a real piano. I played what I could, which was nothing at all, but I knew where Middle C was and it sounded in tune. That’s all I learned from once upon a time living with a musical director, singer and pianist for 10 years.

No one was playing the piano, it lay there silently and looking kinda creepy in the sunlight, with the huge Monument sitting in front of it. Just as I was taking a few pictures of the piano, what looked like a coach load of German tourists queued up to get in. I cussed a bit and got the hell out of there!
I headed onto the next stage of my being a tourist day, which was a wee stroll along the River Thames, where I would hopefully make it to Limehouse Basin and then as far along Regents Canal as my legs would take me. I wandered down to the river and the first thing that I saw was another fucking piano, WTF. Was I being followed by some deranged out of control piano or what. It looked the same from a distant, apart from it had changed colour and this one was being played by a spooky looking girl…she wasn’t really I made that bit up.

This was a piano with a view, it overlooked Tower Bridge, but if your an American you probably think it is London Bridge! The girl could play the piano a bit, the little children looked impressed. I took a snap and got the hell out there, I was on edge for the rest of the day waiting for that piano to creep up on me again.
The pianos are meant to be artwork…they look like plain old upright pianos to me. But according to Luke Jerram the 21 pianos he has placed in and around the Square Mile are actually a work of art called ‘Play Me, I’m Yours.’

Wow, what a strange experience! My intrest in playing the piano makes me want to travel to London and check this out! The piano over the water is deffinatley something I would like to try to play for myself. Thanks for sharing.
