A blog about life in London

Cool Runnings Down Kilburn High Road

Cool Runnings Down Kilburn High Road

Kilburn in North West London is the area of London I call home…it is what I would call a little bit rough around the edges. There is always something happening round here, some of which is good and some not so good. Shop lifting, breaking shop windows and busting into cars seems to be a popular past time for some, but the decent and hard working folks far outweigh the scumbags.

Kilburn sure as hell isn’t the most exciting area I have lived in, but never the less there is a fairly good feel to the place. I like it round here…the vibe is good.

Yesterday morning around 10.30am I was heading down to Kilburn Park tube station, which is quite probably my favourite station in London, when I witnessed a sight that brought a huge smile to my face. I could barely believe what I was seeing.

Picture this, a 50 year old Jamaican male, bottle of red wine, pair of roller skates and Kilburn High Road. Put them all together and what do you have. A 50 year old Jamaican roller skating down Kilburn High Road, drinking red wine like it was water  and the icing on the cake it was raining. I was like WTF…is this guy for real.

I just wished he was going a bit slower and I’m not talking about drinking the wine, but the roller skating part, because by the time I got the camera out he was out of sight. It must have been the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. You have got to hand it  to the Jamaicans they have a certain uniqueness about them…

Cool runnings down Kilburn High Road…I think it has potential to become a popular local pastime. Maybe the  council could do something good for a change and  organise a  race…I would even pay to watch it. Hell I may even enter it myself. I’m after all a wee bit partial to a drop of red wine from time to time. However I’m not too sure about the roller skating bit and drinking the red wine at the same. The Jamaican made it look easy…but  he has probably had a lot of practice…
