Cool London
Cool London, it sure is at the moment a real cool place to be living. I’m of course referring to that good old British past time, talking about the weather. We are well and truly into the beginnings of Winter, which hasn’t been too bad so far. A wee bit of rain and a slight chill in the air, nothing to complain about, if you are born and bred in the UK.
Being a Scots loon from the North East of Scotland, I was amazed by how good the weather is in London. I may have been born only 500 and something miles from London, but the weather between the two places is almost worlds apart. London Is Cool, but it is a hell of lot cooler in Scotland.
I will put things into perspective between early May and the end of September in London, I wore a jacket when I was out on the road about 6 times. Back home in Aberdeen I would have been lucky to have gone out 6 times without a jacket during that same time period. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but only slightly, but you get my drift. Back home we have the North Sea wind that always seems to keep things cool, even on warm days.
Maybe in London it hasn’t been blue skies all the time, in fact they have been few and far between. If you want blue skies all the time go and live in the Caribbean or some place like that. Where a day without beautiful cloud free blue skies is almost the exception to the rule.
When I hear people in London moaning about how crap the summer has been, I think they are having a laugh. It has been a fantastic summer in my mind. It is usually foreigners living in London that I hear whinging and crying about the lack of a summer. Cool London, it has been warm in London for virtually most of the Summer season in my humble opinion.
We are now in November and it is admittedly starting to get noticeable cooler in London. But as most people born in Britain or especially people form the North East of Scotland, are aware it is all about dressing appropriately for the weather conditions that are before us. You don’t go out when it is cool or cold without a jacket and a jumper on. Well you do if you are trying to catch a cold or the flu.
Before I forget I never go anywhere without my beanie hat. I find going around without something on my head to keep it warm, is a sure fire way to catch a cold. It is always safely tucked away in my pocket just in case.
Is there something about beanie hats that makes you stand out or look like a criminal? I walked into Superdrug yesterday afternoon to get some moisturiser to stop my face drying out from the cool London air and the effects of the poisonous tap water in this city. As I walked into Superdrug it was like the security guard/assistant or whatever he was, was on me like a bad rash following me around.
I thought since he was taking a keen interest in me, the clown might as well help me to find what I was looking for. I asked him where to find Nivea Soft Intensive Moisturising cream, and the poor boy was like stuck for words. He eventually remembered how to speak and helped me out. If I was him I would have been watching the two youths without the beanie hats on because they were doing some free shopping if you know what I mean.
London may be getting cooler but what do people expect from living in the UK. You would have to be out of your mind if you think that in living in Britain you are going to have lots of warm and sunny days over the next 5-7 months. It just isn’t going to happen in a million years. It is going to be cold, wet and miserable more often than not.
Remember this people, don’t wine, whinge and cuss the cool London weather, it wont make it suddenly go away or make the sun start shinning brightly. My motto is embrace the cold weather, don’t let it stop you getting out there and enjoying everything that London has to offer.

Yes, like Chicago, I never expect London to be warm, its just not a part of the experience! It looks like we have the same temps in Nov here and people complain non-stop. I think you’re right on target, instead of complaining, use that energy to get out and do some of the great things London has going on.
This is going to be my first British winter, and I’m a little excited and a little scared. I bought a proper waterproof coat last week, so at least I’ll be dry. But the temperature when I left for work this morning was 2. That was a bit of a shock to the system!
The weather in London does always seem to be pretty OK, in saying that over here in Ireland we have had a great year too. It is getting quite cold now but right up until November I hadnt wore a jacket once, which is amazing!
I like your motto to enjoy everything even though the weather might not be so great. I like London a lot.
