Chinese New Year 2012 Pictures From London – Year of the Dragon
London was in a party mood today… it was the Chinese 2012 New Year celebrations to welcome in the Year of the Dragon and the Wandering Scotsman was there to enjoy the festivities. Unbelievable this was my first time…and it wont be my last!
The Chinese New Year actually began at midnight on January 23, 2012. London’s Chinese New Year event traditionally happens on the first Sunday after the official day. Hopefully the Year of the Dragon will bring some good fortune the world over… we sure are needing it. Unless you are a banker, then you don’t need it!
Central London was absolutely buzzing and jam packed with people. I eventually managed to fight my way through the huge crowds to get close enough to capture a few pictures of the performers in the parade. Young girl and boys, men and woman of all ages put a magnificent spectacle as they made there way from Trafalgar Square to Rupert Street in the heart of China Town.
I did make it to Trafalgar Square at 11.45am, but alas I had a Civil War to attend, and by the time I came back an hour later there was no way I was ever going to in get again. Instead of trying to get a glimpse of what was happening inside I took a wee wander along Charring Cross Road, Shaftesbury Avenue, and then into China Town to see what was happening…
